  • Kinda bummed out today

So I have been on induction for 1 week and 1 day, and when I stepped on the scale this morning like I always do, I had gained a pound! Why is this happening to me?? I thought I had been very strict and I had been losing steadily, until today. Here is what I've been eating lately:

    "Breakfast":
    1 string cheese
    1-2 small pepperoni sticks

    Lunch:
    Turkey meat w/cream cheese
    or
    Left over beef roast
    or
Boneless skinless chicken breast w/cheddar cheese over the top

    Dinner:
Beef roast, 1/2 cup cauliflower (mock mashed potatoes), 1 cup salad w/2 tbs blue cheese dressing
    or
Boneless skinless chicken breast, 1/2 cup cauliflower(mock mashed potatoes), 1 cup salad w/2 tbs blue cheese dressing
    or
Steak, green beans w/ 2 tbs cheese sauce, 1 cup salad w/ 2 tbs blue cheese dressing

And I drink 160 oz of plain water a day. Maybe you guys could take a look at my menu and give me some suggestions, maybe I'm not following induction properly or something, but I need to figure out why I gained a pound when I should only be losing! Please help!!!!

Going up a pound is perfectly normal! Try only weighing once a week - weight fluctuates too much from day-to-day to weigh daily.

Julie is quite right. If you are going to weigh yourself daily, you can't freak out over a pound or two as long as it isn't a pound or two three days in a row. How's your weight loss been so far? Are you confirmed in ketosis? Are you less hungry? Are you not craving sweets? Listen to your body, not the scale so much. If you watch Kent's you-tube video on PISS, you could also find answers. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rFEjJ9gsgik Even though you are still in induction, this excellent video sheds some light on how your body manages water in the beginning.

          Re: Kinda bummed out today

I am a bit concerned about your cheese intake. You are limited to 3 to 4 ounces during induction and you are right up to the limit. The cheese sauce that you are using for your green beans is kinda scary unless you make it yourself. It could have hidden illegal stuff if you don't look at the ingredients. Many times they put corn starch or sugars in these. Also check out the ingredients on your salad dressing. Most blue cheese dressings are good, but you just never know until you look at the ingredients. Mission to Lose is right on about the veggies also. You are supposed to be getting your carbs from them. I see about 7 or 8 that don't come from veggies. Plug your menu into Fit Day and look at where and when your carbs are coming. You have a very solid menu as long as you check a few labels.

It's not you. Scales are pure evil and should be avoided. Actually they should be on the NOT FOR INDUCTION list.
Get yourself an old pair of tight jeans, you know the ones that you had to lie on the bed and zip up to get on. Try them and let me know if you don't feel much better.

              Re: Kinda bummed out today

              1) The minimum is 3 cups of veggies, with most of your net carbs for the day coming from veggies. Check my blog for different ways to get sufficient veg in your diet (at least 11g net in 3 cups).

              2) How many calories are you consuming and how many net carbs? If I had to guess, from looking at what you posted I would bet you aren't getting enough calories.

                Re: Kinda bummed out today

Well I try to eat veggies at lunch but I don't always get them in. I know it doesn't look like it but I do get a majority of my net carbs from my veggies, I almost always combine one other veggie with my dinner salad to make up for the veggies I'm not able to eat at lunch. The cheese sauce for the green beans is home made and is just cheese, butter and heavy cream. The dressing is safe, it doesn't have anything in it that I shouldn't be having. I'm staying right at 20 net carbs or maybe 1 or 2 below, I log my meals and snacks into a log everyday to keep track. I have not been keeping track of calories though. Weight loss so far has been excellent, I lost about 10 pounds in a week, so I was happy with that, but I just want to make sure that I'm not doing anything wrong so that I can correct it before it haults any more progress. Thank you all for your help, I really appreciate it!

Oh I know that it works, I just know that sometimes it is easy to accidentally eat something that will throw off the balance of induction. I just haven't gained weight during induction or on Atkins at all, ever so I was just surprised. Anyway, we'll see how tomorrow goes. Thanks everyone!

Sarah, I have to be sneaky with mine in order to get them all in. I'll sautee celery, bell peppers and onion and make an omelet or make deviled eggs with diced onion and s/f sweet pickles. Every little bit helps.

Pepperoni is pretty processed and generally has some form of sugar in it ... are you having it every day?

Also ... the scale doesn't always reflect what happened yesterday ... it can reflect what happened 2 or 3 days before.

So looking at your food journal for 2-3 days ago, do you spot anything odd?

                            Not enough water?

                            Not enough vegetables?

Of course, weight fluctuation is normal ... the bounce up could have been because there's a "y" in the day of the week.
