  • I need some of my own advice, please

First, I am about as cranked up about this as I've been since I started this journey. I have added exercise at a level that I have not done since 15 years ago and definitely not this intense since I started this WOE. Unfortunately that evil metal (glass in my case) monster is giving me higher numbers not lower ones, so I need some words of encouragement that I would normally give to other people.

I need 2Big to tell me that my muscles are super-hydrating in response to the new exercise regimen. And once my body realizes that this is the new norm, that extra water will be shed. (because I know she will, and it will)

I need someone to tell me that the scale is evil. (even though he's always been my friend since I started this WOE)

I need someone to tell me to go by inches lost, not necessarily pounds. (even though I've never measured, I know I'm losing inches)

I need someone to tell me to make sure I'm eating my salad vegetables, because they are a critical part of induction. (and I may mave been lax in the past couple of days)

I need someone to tell me that I am incontrol of the food that goes in my mouth. (not the other way around)

I need someone to tell me that just because I'm exercising my tail off, that is NOT an excuse to eat something further up the ladder, or off plan, no matter how small the bite is. ( Guilty)

I need someone to tell me to make sure I drink plenty of water. (not a problem, but always good advice)

I need someone to tell me to be patient and let the plan work. (because it does)

I need someone to tell me that some of the small gain can be attributed to new lean muscle mass, which is heavier than fat. (I know, I know)

I need someone to tell me that the new muscle mass may be frustrating in regard to the scale, but down the road, that new inefficient muscle tissue will be wasting calories left and right, helping to burn even more fat. (the most inefficient energy machine is the ultimate goal for out bodies isn't it?)

I need someone to tell me that I'm in deep ketosis so the fat IS leaving, and that fat is being replaced by water in those puffy fat cells and soon that water will shed once the body realizes it isn't coming back. (Hellllloooo Whooshie Fairy)

I need someone to tell me to look around here at the amazingly inspiring people on this board, and look at the success they've had. And that I need to look no further for support and encouragement than right here. (I wouldn't be where I am today without this board)

I need someone to tell me that I can do this because obviously I want it bad enough, and I'm worth it. (because I am)

Can someone please tell me these things? Because I really need to hear it.
    Jim

Looks like you already replied to yourself in perfect answers

We all go through that. Unwelding those fat googles from our face is a hard hard thing to do.

If you eat that high carb food you will then be mad cause you cheated yourself and cause you will be feeling the sugar rush and sick. Nope you deserve to be healthy not sick. So go take out your frustrations on the weight stack and get some cals burned and some lovely exercise nerotransmitters to make you feel good too.

Just look at all that energy you got to play with those kids now and how you are going to be there for them growing up and see the grandkids cause you have taken the time to heal your body and stop the sugar damage that was slowly killing you!

SO give your scales away! All they do is measure the effect of gravity exerted upon your entire body mass. It has no idea if that mass has morphed from a marshmellow fellow to a buff studmuffin or even buff stud muffin batter yet to finsh baking with some fluids still to be lost.

Nobody but you sees that number unless you share it with 17000 of your ADBBer buds so walk in to that room knowing you are the smaller healthier person that you have worked so hard to become and flex those new improved buff muscles for the guys to drool over and the ladies to swoon over when your pants fall off cause you need to go get a smaller size.

I've been stuck in a similar lack of weight loss "stall" for the past 6-8 weeks, where I know I have been losing inches, just the scale hasn't budged much. A big part of that is that I have been lifting weights and building muscle going on 4 months now (doing more heavier weights recently). I have yet to really lose "water weight" but I do notice my figure changing and clothes fitting more loose or differently. I did finally lose 2 lbs over the last 2 weeks (I'm also a slow loser).

I've been extra careful about not cheating, and trying to cut down on known stallers. I rarely have cheese now and have even cut down on my Splenda. I've made a point to watch for little cheats that may have slipped in here and there too, more than I did last year when they didn't seem to affect me.

It's extremely frustrating and tough on motivation because there is always that fear that Atkins isn't going to work anymore like all the diets in the past.

But then I remember that this isn't a race to lose weight as fast as possible, and that we just need to let the weight loss happen as it does and that our changed way of eating is permanent not just to lose weight. It tooks years to gain this weight, it might take that long to lose it. The key is that we are eating better and feeling better and that cheats are going to mess that.and won't really be that satisfying.

Hang in there! You already answered most of your questions and know the path ahead of you!
      Start date: 2/22/04 347/222/135 ~ 5'2"
      STAC Restart: 1/05/09
      306/229/135 ~ 5'2" 77 lbs down!

      Goal #1: 247 - 2nd 10% (59lbs, 247, also 100 lbs total loss) - Met 1/4/10!!!
      Goal #2: 241 - Halfway to goal! (106 lbs lost) - Met 2/21/10!!!

      Goal #3: 222 - 3rd 10% - Lowest Atkins weight
      Goal #4: 210 - Still on track!
      Goal #5: 200/199 - 4th 10% - One-derland! End year goal!

You could read the opening post that started this thread, but you
should probably just avoid the scale for a week and enjoy this WOE
(and the extra strength, endurance, etc. that you have developed).

If after a week your clothes aren't a bit looser, then give it
another week or two. (I get more compliments when I am stalled
then when I am consistently losing.)

No stepping on the scale until May day!

Give it time Jim. As you are doing new exercises the muscles are repairing themselves and perhaps inflamed. Wait it out, the scale will start responding again positively. You know this way works -- all you have to do is give it time. You shouldn't have to look around to be inspired. Your new commitment to running is astounding. The same guy that can kick a mile's butt by running can hold on to eating right no matter what the scale says.

I went up 5 pounds when I started exercising was completely distraught until 2Big came to the rescue. So I stuck it out and for 7 weeks I stayed up from my low then BOOM I went down and down and down and lost 15 pounds after the 7 weeks. You are doing awesome so lets do some more exercise together and kick this fat in the A$$
