Re: CC Roll Call 5th March 2010
Well hello, it has been getting lonely in here, LOL!
I'm still analyzing my diet trying to determine the reason(s) for my scale slowdown over the past month or more.
I looked at some of my notes from last fall when I was losing much more regularly - I note that I was taking in slightly fewer carbs (in the mid to upper 20s most days versus low 30s for most of the past month or more), eating nothing different other than the occasional peanuts that I added over the past few months, and drinking a little more water than recently. I'm pretty sure I was doing more exercise (which wouldn't be hard, LOL!).
I have been trimming back the carbs to try to keep it under 30 and reminding myself to drink a little more water. No added exercise yet. Have shaved off the pounds I was up over my low, and am now waiting to start actually dropping again. Once that occurs and I seem to be in the groove again I will try adding back in occasional peanuts and continue my experiment.
My current thought is that it is not really peanuts per se' that was a problem, but just the carbs they were helping to add to my totals. I let my carb levels creep up from upper 20s to the 30 to 33ish level over the last few months, somewhat on purpose hoping I could still lose there, and I think the answer seems to be no, at least not predictably or without a significant amount of more exercise. It was great for maintenance, though, or tiny amounts of exceedingly slow weight loss, so more appropriate for pre-maintenance/maintenance. So I think I have identified the LOWER range of pre-maintenance to maintenance carb levels for myself given my current activity level... how high I could go and still lose maybe lose a little or maintain before starting to gain I do not intend to find out until I get seriously close to goal. Hopefully it will be a big range of low 30s to something in the 50s or 60s. Maybe if I threw more exercise at it, I could raise the lower range. That would be worth it.
So I've tightened up on my carb counting mostly by doing more measuring and counting my carbs earlier in the day to see if I need to leave something off or choose something else for supper - after several months, you think you know what a half cup or a cup of something looks like, and I hadn't been measuring as often on some things. Given my slow to no weight loss as of late, I decided I couldn't afford to misjudge a veggie or salad dressing portion that might add an extra couple of carbs - do that a couple times a day, and its enough to maybe push me into staying the same instead of losing some more of this fat. Totally not worth it!
I have a crazy week coming up next week and hope that doesn't interfere with my current more strict food routine. Plan on cooking some things ahead on Sunday and packing up some meals ahead of time, measuring out some snacks, etc. I don't want to make myself crazy over food, but I also don't want to go another month without losing something either. I hate that I spent the entire month of February doing things MOSTLY right, but JUST MISSING by enough to make me not lose. Oh well, that's okay, at least I got to learn where my cutoff for losing seems to be, even though I really didn't want to find out, LOL!
