First of all, welcome to the club. You will find a ton of support here and many to talk to about your victories and your setbacks.

You have taken a HUGE step by realizing that you are going to have to work to get the weight off. We all have to come to that conclusion before we are successful. As far as motivation goes, KNOW this: YOU CAN DO THIS, YOU CAN DO THIS, YOU CAN DO THIS!!! Every time you do the right thing in dealing with your new way of life, the choice will become easier. Before you know it, you will be dropping inches and pounds left and right. Believe it.

Ok as far as advice goes, you NEED a copy of Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (You will here it called DANDR). It is a 'Bible' around here. Get the most recent version (2002 I believe) and read it. So many questions will be answered there. It is a remarkably powerful tool.

Second, drink your water. Browse these boards enough and you will see EVERYONE talking about getting their water in. It is a chore and I consider it the hardest thing to do. You should optimally drink a ful 64 ounces plus 8 ounces for every 25 pounds you wish to lose. Do this everyday.

Thirdly, do yourself a favor and do a clean induction. Stay away from foods not on the acceptable foods list in DANDR. Don't assume something has no carbs. Stay away from caffeine, the artificial sweetener aspartame, and make sure the carbs you get come from your salad veggies or other acceptable veggies.

Four, expect to feel sluggish for a few days while your body transitions from burning glucose for energy to burning fat. This is so common it is given a name here (induction-flu). After four or five days, you will make the transition and feel a burst of energy.

Fifth, get your exercise! I know it is hard to get up and moving, but things don't get better by themselves. You are dedicated enough to log on and be here. Now, seize some of the good vibes we will be sending you and channel that into motivation to get moving. Start small if you need to, but work up every week. You will be surprised at how quickly your body responds.

Finally, my last bit of advice. Tell everyone who says that you will never make it, that what you are doing is unhealthy, that you will fail to stick it up their rear ends. You know what you need to do. When you read the DANDR, you will have solid evidence that what you are doing is both safe and healthy. Do not let anyone bring you off this path and you will shock them all when it is over.

Once again, welcome aboard. I look forward to hearing lots of good news from you. Congratulations on making the tough decision to change your entire life.

Welcome CThompson! We're always glad to have a new member in the Century Club. You've come to a great place for advice and support. Soon you will be a big "loser"! LOL Watch out, though! There seems to be something in the water lately that is causing so many of the CC members to get pregnant!
