  • My Doc says maybe 220? Huh?

Has anyone ever experienced their Dr. telling them that he thinks their ideal weight will probably fall around 200 and that they should be happy with that?

My Dr. is a very caring, intelligent man, and very supporitve and patient of me with my previous weight loss attempts. He always told me because I am a large muscular person I would be good at 200. Anyhow, I recently had a stall and opted to meet with his Physician's Assistant because he was all booked up for a week. Anyway, I confessed to her that I was afraid that my stall at 220 meant that was as far as I could go and I shared with her what my Dr. had been telling me about what he thought my ideal weight would be.

She agreed with me and said she thinks staying at 200-220 is hogwash! She thinks I am capable of achieving around 160. Who is right? My Doc or the P.A.? Am I all washed up and pipe dreaming to think I could actually be that small? I am a bit confused and do not want to be setting an unrealistic goal. :help

Anybody out there who has been told by their Doc that 200 would be good? Did you defy the odds? Tell me about it! I'm all ears!

ask them to check your actual body fat percent and see how much you really have to lose. That will tell you who is right. if you have 170 pounds of lean tisue then 200 pounds would be underweight for you but if you have 130 pounds then 160 would still be okay for you. and 200 would be overweight.
The charts say I'm overweight but with just 14.9% body fat I'm actually underweight right now.

    Happy low carbing.

When I first gained all this weight and was so heartsick over it (I gained the majority of it while preggo 7 years ago...like 110 pounds of it), I asked my doctor what I should do. He asked me what my father weighed...I told him he always weighed over 300lbs. Then he asked about my mother. I replied she was always very large. He then told me I could expect just be very large myself for the rest of my life! I was CRUSHED. When I went in last year for something, I had lost the 70 pounds, and was again hurt when he blew it off saying "Atkins is hard to stick to long term". I love my doc....he's a great person. I just have to prove him WRONG!!!

I weigh more on the scale!

I have always weighed more on the scale, than what the eye can see. I am trying to get down to 200lbs to see how I look, and I will take it from there. The charts are okay for some, but you cannot base what is a healthy weight for you on what some chart says. While I do want to lose weight, I don't want to look sick either--that, to me is not healthy! My current LBM is 149.6 and my BMI is 37.43. If I still look healthy when I hit 200lbs (buy healthy I mean- I don't want my eyes sunk in or for everything to be saggy.) Since I workout so much, I'm not really worried about the saggy part. I just want to get down to about a size 14/16. I think that will be a good size for the way my body distributes weig

I had a doctor who I adored. She asked me once if there has been any weight as an adult where I held steady for a longer period of time. I told her that I was around 240 all through high school and she told me that may be a good number to shoot for and maybe my body would be happy with that weight. I don't think she ever would have discouraged me from losing more though.

I think that doctors really have no idea what to do with really overweight people. They want to find the right balance between encouraging you and not setting you up for failure by never being satisfied with your weight loss and appearing to nag you about your weight all the time.

It's tough to figure out what is the "right" weight, but if you have the body fat test done, you can find out how much of your weight is actually fat, then work from there.

Hi... I am new to this site... I have been on Atkins since May of 2003 and have lost 105 pounds... I think that I looked my best at 190 pounds... I am 5'8" and was very muscular at that time... That being said... I DO think of my low carb life as just that a LIFE style.... I have another 70 or 80 pounds to go to get to that 190 BUT... I feel better then I have in years and will continue to eat low carb for the rest of my life... I consider the weight loss a perk of eating healthy and no matter where I stop loosing wieght... I'll be happy.... I hope this helps you and I wish you luck in your low carb road to a healthy and happy lifestyle...

                Hello!

                :hug
                :joy

I can only speak for me. I started at 389 pounds last year. When I was 14, I weighed 214. (omg!!!)

My goal weight, my 'dream' weight is 200. Can I get lower? I honestly don't know, I'm a big girl.

I think we have the power to acheive all our goals if they are focused on.

                You can do it!

I'd suggest stop shotting for the scale number and aim more for BF%....its much easier on the mind.

Set a goal for a certain percent and reach it, see how you feel and look.
