  • Thursday is the BIG DAY!

It's my ultrasound! Hopefully I will know by tomorrow afternoon if I'm having a mucko or mucka! LOLLOL

I am actually nervous. While my heart longs for a girl, my odds are its a boy. After having four boys, I think I'm a "boy machine"! LOL

BTW, I haven't been around lately due to me being sick AGAIN and then my kids came down with it too. I seem to have become a walking germ factory. I catch everything that is going around. As soon as I start to recover my kids catch it.

    I'll post the results tomorrow.

    Dawn

Actually: If it is a boy, you can blame your husband :joy The sperm determines the sex of the child at fertilization.

          Woohoo on baby-gender-news!

I second the husband blaming thing, since they don't have bladder issues, morning sickness or swollen mammarian appendages.

yeah sex of the child is totally the guy's fault (so feel free to blame him)

The egg that you provided has half the normal number of chromosomes than normal cells in your body. because you are a female, you have two X chromosomes. so, every cell in your body with a nucleus will be XX. when you are producing eggs, the cell undergoes a process called meiosis, in which the cell loses half its chromosomes. So either way the XX splits your cell will have X. The other half is up to the guy.

When the guy's cells (XY) undergo meiosis, there are two possible outcomes. Half of the sperm will have an X chromosome and half will have a Y chromosome.

When the egg is fertilized, if it is by a sperm carrying the Y chromosome, you will have a male. If a sperm with an X chromosome fertilizes the egg, tada, you get a girl.

Just a fun fact since I jumped to genetics, did you know it is the female's fault if a male suffers from color-blindness? This is because the gene responsible for color blindness is located on the X chromosome that the female supplied. Finally the guy can be honest when he says he had nothing to do with it! GO MEN!

**note: this is genetic color-blindness. Also if a female is color-blind, it is because both the female and the male provided an X chromosome with the color-blind gene represented.
