  • POST ONE THING THAT....

helps you adjust to this new way of eating....

i know for me....organization is the key -- making sure i have my food prepared before i head off to work for example, so i dont run into those "oH no i don't have the right foods i'll just grab anything" kind of situation....

anyone else have anything to add?

I make my menu out a week ahead, and make sure I have all the groceries for the week. Also, I prepackage things in serving sizes in my freezer, so I can make it up as I go. If I have to go to someone's house for dinner, I explain how I have to eat and ask if we can just get together for a visit instead. So far it usually works, except my one sister in law who feels Atkins is deadly keeps trying to mess me up.

Planning definitely helps me to stay on track, but also variety has been a key factor. As long as I don't eat the same things, day in, day out, I can do it!

Hmm, I am not much of a planner but I think the main thing that helps me adjust is that I have total control over the foods in my home. So, if any food comes into the house, it has to go through Bran Customs. If it is a bad food, it is immediately thrown into the garbage or fed to the dog.

I told my family very simply that I was not giving myself the option of failure and that if they want to eat that poison, do so before they get home. Thank the Lord they actually are listening for once. :P

You know, its funny. Delph mentioned variety. I'm the opposite. The only time I like variety is at dinner, I have the same breakfast pretty much every day, and lunch too. It helps me because I know exactly how much I need, and no thinking involved. Pretty lame, huh? ensive

I had (and still have) a great friend doing the program with me.

She'd been doing Atkins for a year already, so she was well prepared for all the weirdy quiestions I had. She loaned me her copy of the DANDR until I could find a copy of my own. She set me up with a VCR and DVD (who has extra VCRs and DVDs??? She did!) and all the videos I needed to start moving. She gives me great recipes, and actually cooks for me quite frequently. She has been nothing but patient and supportive. AND FUN! I know I couldn't have done this without her help!

First thing I thought of: Making sure I have enough of the right foods

Second thought was: Getting on here when my day is crappy or I need recipes or I an't remember why something got a bad review from someone. So, this site is a big organizing help to me

                    Routine.

I have found the easiest way for me to keep on track is to eat the same basic thing for breakfast (sausage) and lunch (grilled chicken salad) each day. I never have to wonder about trigger foods or portion sizes as I know what size it should be. I can also readily spot any problem children (small additions) by weight fluctuations. Some people might not like monotony, but I seem to relish it.

I agree with Bowulf. I thrive on monotony! LOL

                      Breakfast
3 eggs w/ cream cheese from breakfast
(Weekends sometimes I add bacon or sausage)

                      Snack
                      Boars Head Chicken slices
                      Boars Head Meunster cheese
(I buy it daily, so the girls at the deli know I'm coming and sometimes have it all ready for me before I get there! )

                      Lunch
                      Salad
Leftover meat from last night or tuna

                      Dinner
                      Meat
                      Veggie
(This meal varies, but I dont cook much so its basically the same 10 things.)

                      Suits me just fine :yes

I cook my meals for the week on Sunday. As a matter of fact that is what I am doing right now :joy

It helps that food is already prepared, that way, I won't have to worry about waiting for it to cook. I pop it in the microwave and I'm eating in a matter of minutes. I also try to eat small meals every 3 hours so I won't get too hungry and end up craving the bad things.

I keep all low card foods in my house, so, if I grab something I know its good for me.. I just go with the flow.

Planning, and having my groceries delivered, by shopping on-line. That way I can put an order in at the beginning of the week for weekend delivery (to make sure I get the delivery slot I want) and then 'tweak' it during the week if I need to. The main thing is that it means I hardly EVER have to set foot in a food store. You can't be tempted to buy things you shouldn't when you can't even see them, let alone smell them! Costs a bit for delivery but has been a life-saver.
