This weekend has been horrible for me diet wise! I almost never buy fruit, since it is expensive and frequently went to waste in the past. This week my husband wants to start a no refined sugars diet, and asked me to buy him fruit. UGH wouldn't you know it, right when I have the biggest fruit cravings in my life. Needless to say, I've collapsed both yesterday and today. NO MORE!!! I will not be conquered by a fruit!!! Send me some strength, people! Sorry, just had to vent it out.

Well, no, but its not good for induction, either. I just got back from fitday...76 carbs yesterday, and 34 today. At least I'm in a downward trend. Starting now, I'm seriously back to super induction woman! And thanks for the hug, friendly...I needed it.

If you eat enough of it you would. Fruits contain fructose/sugar and any excess sugar that your body can't burn off, it converts to fat (for the next time you starve yourselfOriginally posted by fr1endly2I never heard someone gaining wieght and getting fat from fruit.

Perhaps you could just be exta careful *which* fruits you buy.
Cherries, blueberries. strawberries are all wonderful (so long as you aren't still on induction) and have never spiked my blood-sugars. I find the occasional small orange doesn't affect me too much, but if I have one a day I get problems after day 4 or 5. Peaches spike me straight away. Never risked a banana...Started lowcarb February 2, 2004

Thank you everyone! Yes, Becky, I think it was the Yeastie's that got to me. I caved into the sugar cravings I had conquered just two days before, and didn't even recognize them for what they were. I'm determined to get back on track today. NO MORE " just one won't hurt"isms.

Most people probably couldn't tell without taking a blood sugar test, but I always produce *too much* insulin in response to a rise in blood sugar so after a spike I end up with a big drop in blood sugars, which for me means I get unco-ordinated, my brain goes on strike, I slur my speech and go shaky and pale. The drop is accompanied by a release of adrenaline (the body's way of counteracting a drop in blood sugars) which naturally makes me angry/frightened/aggresive. You don't want to know me when that happens...Originally posted by ex-barbie-dollHow can you tell.. what are the signs?Originally posted by EstherPeaches spike me straight away. ...

My life seems to consist of a giant experiment in how different foods and exercise levels affect my blood sugars. I'm trying to get myself as fit as possible while at the same time being able to eat as wide a variety of foods as possible. It's quite a juggling act but it's great fun! Get it wrong and I end up throwing a hypo and smashing things up. Get it right and I can go jogging every morning, eat fruit twice a day and lose some more weight.Started lowcarb February 2, 2004

Dr Atkins says you will notice cravings when your BS spikes from the resulting fall back below normal from all the insulin used to treat that blood sugar rise. Some flok can actualy feel physical symptoms of a blood sugar rush.by the book atkinseer

Oh gosh, I don't get any of these symptoms... I just noticed when I stopped eating a particular food, I suddenly stopped stalling! I wish I got symptoms like some of you do!30yo F 5'5 (166cm)

Then again, maybe you don't. They are depressing, and they cause loved ones alot of stress. You can say, "oh hey, I just had a sugar low, sorry I bit your head off and spit it in the garbage...here let me glue it back togethor for you". Somehow, they just don't understand. I have had problems with this all my life, and lost friendships due to severe sugar lows. People just don't accept excuses like that. Its taken me the last three years to learn my triggers, and how to control what I eat to avoid them. Thank God my DH is a VERY patient man. He's gotten to the point now that he just says..."You had alot of sugar today, didn't you?" When on Atkins, these problems disappear.
I know you didn't literally mean that you want these symptoms...but I think its probably a good thing that you don't have them, as it is probably a sign you aren't severely hypogleciemic.

Maribelle is right - you really *don't* want all those symptoms. No doctor ever diagnosed what was wrong with me and I've spent years in and out of psychiatric hospitals, lost virtually all my friends, became a total recluse who wouldn't set foot outside the door. At one point I remember (vaguely..) putting my fist through a window which split my wrist open and then looking down at my son, who was about 4 at the time, and not knowing where all the blood on his face had come from - mercifully it was only mine that had splashed from my wrist...
The only advice a doctor ever gave me about it (the others never believed it was blood sugars, and I think this one was only humouring me) was to base my diet on complex carbohydrates. You know, plenty of oats, wholemeal bread, bananas, brown pasta. No wonder I reached 300 lbs and never got any better.
One doctor told me that he would believe me if I could show him a low-blood-sugar reading. The only problem was that if anyone approached me when I was in a hypo I would attack them. For some reason my DH would only approach bearing a bar of chocolate, which would always snap me out of it for an hour or so, and then (naturally) trigger the next one.
Dr Atkins will never know how much his diet has changed my life!!
Of course, all this means I'm a very good way to test how fruits affect blood sugars. For me, 20 or so cherries, 10 strawberries or a big handfull of blueberries won't affect me at all. Peaches are a no-no!Started lowcarb February 2, 2004

Yes Maribelle and Esther, you are right... I don't really want to be hypoglycæmic
... I just wish I had a better way of telling when a food doesn't suit me, instead of having to find out because I've stalled for a while, and cut out a food - and I haven't even gone past the Induction food list! I'm so far in between, between weightlosses, that I know if I move to OWL and experimenting with different foods and such, I worry I'll be on another stall for ages.
Sorry Maribelle and Esther - didn't mean to offend you.
