  • What do you do for exercise?

So I am on this new exercise kick. I have always had to force myself to exercise. It was never fun. Well, its still not really all that fun, but all of a sudden, I am really motivated to exercise.

So I am curious, what do you all do for exercise? How much, and how often?

I know this probably should have gone in the exercise forum, but I wanted to see what other people my size were doing.

I walk 4 miles a day on an incline of 2 as often as is possible and watching tv. I haven't been as good at it lately, but I've really been missing it, and am going to hop back into action!

I started out only walking a little bit and celebrated just doing it!

I exercise 20-25 minutes 5 days per week. Two days I do strength training and the other 3 days I jog. So far I have lost .5 to 2 # per week with this schedule. I just up the intensity every two weeks.

I have always hated exercise, but find that I feel so good afterward (must be the endorphins!)

Cardio (elliptical trainer, trail biking, stair climbing) 5-6 times per week
Strength Training 3-4 times per week

My favorite exercise is biking outdoors, but only recently has the weather even approached being the right temp for it. One other thing I have been doing recently is calisthenics (pushups and situps) to pass the PT test.

Lately it's been jogging. I do 32-35 min on the treadmill at 4.2-4.3 pace and level 3.5 once a week and/or I go walk/jog 3 miles on the track down the street with a 1/2 mile walk over and 1/2 mile walk back once a week.

Plus I have Tues. morning walks with my friend Paula (I think we walk a 1/2 to 3/4 mile loop and we do 6 laps in an hour).

I spend 2.5 hours mowing the lawn (all walking) once a week.

I have weights to do as well at least 1-2 times a week. Tend to do that in front of the tv while sitting with the kids.

Kathy (wow, I'm exercising a lot...LOL!) Hadn't thought about all of it until you asked.

I jog 2 miles around 4 days a week (took 8 months to get this fit...)

              I do 2 x 15mins 3 or 4 days a week on the elliptical.

I also do a bit of yoga or pilates, lots of gardening, walking, bit of building work/renovation.

I'm hoping to buy a home-gym soon and do some 'real' strength training.

For now, I walk around the inside track at the gym that I go to mon-fri. Pretty soon I will start using the elliptical trainer again.

My goal is to live more actively. I can be VERY seditary and not move for hours or days at a time. My exercise is:

                  Walking my dogs,
                  Yard Work and gardening
                  Home improvements - painting, decorating

                  My goal is

30 to 40 minutes of walking 3 or 4 times a week (thats up from 10 mintues once or twice a week last Nov.) I'll be increasing to 40 to 60 minutes in the next few weeks.

Plus I have just added 2 or 3 hours of active work in the garden, yard or house one or two days per week.
I've stripped wallpaper, painted, planted bulbs, weeded the garden, cleaned the travel trailer, and helped my DH build a fence in the last few weeks.

I like this better then going to a gym or working with weights.

I cross 3 suburbs walking either work-home or home-work or both. It helps me unwind at end of day so I don't "take work" home by the time I get there. Walking 45min before I get home really clears out my mind.

its hard exercising in this climate of UAE..... already started getting scorching hot out....so I have to do my exercise indoors....plus I'm working until 6 pm everynight, which doesn't leave me much time to go to a gym...

so my husband bought me an ecliptical machine taht I've been using quite regularly, eveyr day at least 20 minutes...but i'm trying to stay on it longer..

its hard to exercise in Air conditioned environments..my body is still getting used to hot and humid weather where you are forced to stay indoors most of the time during the summer months, versus good ole fresh air Canada ...

i'm not complaining though just requires some adaptations to lifestyles
