  • I have been gone a while, but I am ready now.

I gave Atkins a go about a year ago and gave up. However, I quit smoking in January 2005 and have been smoke free for 5 months now, and I smoked for 17 years about 2 packs per day. Since I overcame that I am now ready to lose the weight. I gained 32 pounds when I quit smoking and I have to lose that as well as the other weight.

This is my delima, I hate to READ books. I tried reading the book, but I do better reading online. Maybe its because I read alot for school and with my kids...the book is just too much for me lol . Where can I read the book online? I think I will be able to do that. I loved Atkins when I did it before, I felt 100% better, but I want to do it right this time around. I am up for a Gastric Bypass in December and I told myself to do this till I am due for surgery, and if I see reasonable results I will not go through surgery. I can do this, I just need the right motivation and support.

Also, I am taking a Multi-Vitamin w/o Iron and Flax Seed Oil, anything else? Thanks so much! I look forward to your responses.

Joy....I don't know where you can read the book online, but if you have a problem with reading the whole book at a time, you can just read the parts relating to Induction first and as you progress read the revelent parts for the next stage. That is what I did. HTH

      Welcome Joy!

Not sure on reading on-line, there's so much more in the book. But you can get the basics at http://atkins.com/myatkins/atkins-university.html

Good luck. Congrats on quitting smoking, that's an amazing achievement.

Welcome! That is awesome that you quit smoking (I've been trying to get my parents to quit for years).

The Atkins site can help you with the basics, and obviously you can get a lot of information here. But be prepared for the occaional scold of "Read the book!". Also do a lot of reading here you can learn a lot just from other people posts.

Maybe you could just read the book a few chapters at a time. Each chapter is pretty short, probably only a 15 minute to 1/2 hour read (depending on how fast you read). Then you could just read each relevant section as it pertains to you.

        Good luck!

Tell your husband to go to www.whyquit.com and have him read the story on Brian, he was diagnosed with oat cell lung cancer and died 2 months later and he was only 34 and left a child and wife behind. He went in for a stomach pain and left knowing he had cancer. That is what helped me kick Ash =).

Hi again, Lima...I'm with the others. If you could just read a relevant chapter at a time, like beginning with induction. If you're not into all the scientific reasons for why Atkins is so awesome, you can probably skip right to the induction part. I'm not a science wiz, and alot of it gets lost in my little brain. As for supplements, there is a supplement forum here that might help. Also, more reading, but Dr. A has the Dr. A. Vita Nutrient Solution. You don't have to read the whole thing cover to cover, but you could go in and look up what is good for whatever you want to achieve. Best of luck.
