Last night, after picking my DH up from work, we had to pull over for an emergency vehicle. After that, several more went speeding through, and later I saw the emergency air lift hilocopter flying back to its base...I thought to myself, this looks pretty serious. Very late last night I found out it was three 17 year old girls from our parish. They were driving on gravel back roads when the driver lost control. All three were ejected from the vehicle, two were dead by the time the ambulance got there. The other was air lifted, and is not expected to live. As a mother, this is terrifying to me...I can't stop thinking of their mothers and fathers today, heartsick over such useless deaths! If only there was some way to make young people realize the danger of their actions, the importance of simple things like seat belts, the fact that they are not IMMORTAL! I think we all feel that way sometimes. So, if you could pray for their families this morning, and hug your children...maybe even say a few words to the young drivers that you know out there about driving safely. I don't know...I'm just totally heartsick.

This is very sad! Unfortunately, it must have been in God's plan.. It just may have been their time to go.
What scares the heck out of me is that you never know when it's gonna happen! Everything could be going just fine, and them out of no where someone is no longer with us. :sadblinky

Maribelle--extra hugs are always great to give my kids! Consider that done. What a rough time those parents are going to have. My heart breaks for them. HUGS :hug :hug :hug to you and your parish as well.

I don't believe God is cruel at all....another way to look at it is that God gave everyone of us a "FREE WILL" to do with what we want to do...Is God really so cruel?
Did not mention drinking but seat belts were not worn which is a choice to be made.
Sometimes our choices can be disasterous but they were our choices and hope it does not seem like I am playing the Devil's advocate but just a part of growing up and unfortunately some don't get to far in the process.
I am more a believer of the Free Will given us than it was in God's plans or it was their time to go... I hope everyone can understand what I am saying. Johnny

I agree that we all have a time to go, and although what may seem cruel to us, as some one said, may be used by God to prevent many other similar catastrophes. Also, it was their choice to act VERY irresponsibly. I know now all the details. Apparently the driver, who is the only one to survive, was only 14 years old, and the other two, a 17 and a 15 year old were "teaching" her to drive without permission, which is also against the law. They were doing 60 miles an hour on a gravel road with several 90 degree and sharper curves when they lost control and flipped 15 times. The poor girl who was driving is actually home now, her injuries were internal, but thankfully not fatal. But she will have to live with the consequences of her actions the rest of her life. I don't know as of yet wether there will be any wrongful death or manslaughter charges. I think being responsible for the deaths of two best friends would be lesson enough for anyone. Thank you all for your sympathy and prayers. We are a parish of 2000 people, and so not everyone knows everyone else, but it was still taken VERY hard.
