  • Ok officially starting Monday, but...

Thanks for the warm welcome lol, sorry if I was a butt. Anyways I am officially starting Monday, started drowning myself in water, joined the rec center on campus for the summer, so now I want to know which book you all recommend. I will read bits as I need them lol. I do not want to go through surgery, so I want to make this work. I know I can especially with all the support from these boards. I am even going out to buy me a camping gas grill till we are able to buy the BIG one I want.

Also, we are taking the kids to my mother n laws for Memorial Weekend, so what are good snacks and meals I can take with me on an 8 hour trip? We only have a small cooler, so I need things that don't need to be cooled. Also, I can't ask my mother -n- law to cook specifically for me, so I have decided not to eat any taters, bread, corn or pasta while at her house, and I will make the right choices as she cooks alot of fresh veggies and grills, so I will be cool there and they don't eat sweets, so I won't be tempted. Any ideas will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

"Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution " (DANDR for short) the 2002 edition. All advice given from here will be taken from that book.

Until you buy and read the book you can find a list of acceptable foods for induction here: http://atkins.com/Archive/2001/12/15-464579.html

Please don't eat anything that's not listed on that page because it's best to stick to a clean induction.

Good luck with your weight loss journey!

Well, the first book to get of course is the Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution. It may very well be the only book you need. Other helps is his Carb Counter, and his VitaNutrient Solution. Make sure if when you start that you have a good multi vitamen. Dr. A. is very adamant about the need for suppliments.

As for snacks on your trip that don't need to be cooled, that one is a toughy. I can't really think of any off the top of my head, unless you get beef sticks or pepperoni that is packaged in small enough portions that you can enjoy them in one serving, and not have to cool the leftovers. Also salami, celery, cauliflower, broccoli within the induction limits are good munchers. If you weren't on induction, you could have limited portions of almonds or macadamia nuts. Make sure you take plenty of water of course. Traveling is very dehydrating. One way I've made sure it stays cool in the past is to take a gallon of water and freeze it till solid, and enjoy it as it thaws on my trip. I hope this helps.

I'd pick up another cooler for 5 bucks or one of those aluminum foil type bags that keeps things cool. A cheap styrofoam cooler will be money better spent than wasted food. In that cooler, I'd probaly take some hard-boiled eggs already peeled for ease, cut up peppers or cucumber, cheese (packaged is easier). If you can get some GLADware, maybe tuna packets and you can mix tehm up when you wnat to. I also saw at Target, salad dressing packets, 10 in a box, that you can bring as dip or dressing. On stops in gas stations you can always refeul if needed on some kind of deli meats, if absolutely necessary. I am sure you will stop to eat on teh road, so maybe jsut bring lots of frozen water to hold you over, too. THat way, water is your ice to keep rest cool and you can drink it after.
