Try looking for Lin seeds or lin flour.

I bought mine at Holland & Barrett's - 500 gr of their own brand Golden Linseed for £4.49 but they also sell another brand which is glutenfree for 50p more.

A later search for "golden linseed" UK found this page

They have 250 grams for £1.15 but postage of about £6.00 so you would have to buy a quantity to make it worth while.

            and this

They have 'bulk' packs of 3 kilos of brown linseed for RRP £4.33 and golden linseed for RRP £17.98 and lower wholesale prices but I couldnt see a minimum for getting the wholesale prices - maybe you cant buy just one pack - but I havent had an email response to my enquiry yet.

Just had a reply from one enquiry.

"We sell organic flax seed £2.75 for 500g."
"No set p/p charges - just whatever the post is - nothing added on top."
              email to <bodyandsoul@organic-gmfree.co.uk>

I think I might order my next linseed from them.

Someone asked about buying linseed flour - well I read somewhere that it has a very short shelf-life once it has been ground.
It doesnt take long in a coffee grinder or the small grinding thingy that came with my food processor so it might be just as easy to grind what you need as you go - and you can then get it as fine/coarse as you want.

Tescos sell a medium sized bag of "Brown Linseed" for 89p

Is this the equivalent of flax seed?

Yes, Daz, the exact same stuff

You can get brown or golden linseed. I have never bought the brown but heard it tastes a bit stronger than the golden sort. The brown is usually cheaper than the golden.
