OMG! did anyone watch 'superslim me' on UK tv? They reviewed atkins as a diet and said ALL the stereotypical atkins things, showed the woman doing it making copious fry ups, only eating meat and NO veg with no comment about eating veg for carbs. It gave my relatives more fodder to throw at me! GRRR!!

Re: atkins on TV tonight
No I missed that - good thing or I would have been throwing things at the TV
Apparently there is a programme about 'gastric banding' to lose weight too tonight at 9 pm on BBC1
DH is watching James Bond instead though!Fiona Bruce reports on the pros and cons of one of the country's fastest-growing medical procedures - gastric banding. This and other weight-loss surgery can help people lose huge amounts of weight, but the procedures can bring unwelcome complications.Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Re: atkins on TV tonight
Yeah- everyone else is feeling the post-christmas weight so they put out all these programmes to make them guilty and THOUSANDS of new exercise videos (I might get Jordans... NOT).

Re: atkins on TV tonight
Not only was that female eating all meat and no veg but there was no mention of any water she should have been drinking nor exercise she should have been doing.
I was highly suspicious of the programme from the moment I heard about it - and it lived up (or should that be down) to my expectations.
She lost six pounds in three weeks... enough said?

Re: atkins on TV tonight
Not forgetting that she was also eating sausages!
Everyone knows in this country that the majority of our sausages are full of fillers. It really winds me up. I was in the mood to complain to channel four via email if there was something that wasnt right about it.
But at the start of the programme they put in a disclaimer that the diets were followed as close as they could have been.
Atkins ALWAYS gets such a bad press here.
Did you notice on the plate where she had that massive piece of steak, there was a token bit of lettuce?

Re: atkins on TV tonight
Not to mention a few mushrooms in with the huge fry-up - that's more of a fry-up than I'd have, thank you very much!
Trying to find decent sausages that don't cost a fortune is not so easy to do in the UK. Looks like I'd better try to find something else for breakfast!
I was furious with that programme - no way in blazes were any of those 'diets' being followed correctly and even if the women lost weight there was no guarantee that they would learn how to keep the momentum going. Induction is NOT the whole of the Atkins WOL....

Steam's coming out of mine also.
They all lost weight, except for the GI woman. But how many of the other so called diets could you stick to easily!
For example that b***** cabbage soup diet, you can only do for a week at a time. Whats the point in that!"?!?!?!?!? Its hardly going to be a life changer is it?sigpic260/215/180 Male - 36 y/o

Re: atkins on TV tonight
Amusingly enough, Weight Watchers didn't even get a look-in!
I tried something like the cabbage soup diet years ago - hardly lost anything but was so sick of soup by the end of the week.
People want quick fixes, not 'life changes' that demand time, commitment and a completely new approach to how you live your life.
Every other diet or dietary approach I've tried hasn't worked for me. Everything else makes me feel deprived and miserable. I don't feel that way on Atkins. I accept that other people may wish to pursue their weightloss approach differently from me - but that doesn't give anyone else the right to mis-represent Atkins.

Re: atkins on TV tonight
that cambridge liquid plan was the funniest.
I noticed the sausages too, thought hmm wonder if she spent ages trawling the shelves for them like me??
I saw a good programme on atkins once, can't remember what it was called, diet trials maybe, but eamonn holmes presented it (love him) and they were very scientific and accurate about it from what I remember. They didn't just follow ONE person so got a more representative trial!!!!
Ugh, that programme was stupid. Rich, you should complain. I was going to but didn't feel educated about atkins in myself enough!!

She is one of my most annoying tv presenters.
Did a little search on diet trials, they had a little bit of blurb about the programme and their results( dunno how to paste), bit better than the channel 4 show in factual evidence.

Right click on the web link, and click on "copy shortcut". then paste it over here.
Be sure to quote the website address that you got it from though, for legal reasons.

I dont know what supermarkets you have in your neck of the woods, Deborah or what they stock but have you looked at the label on packs of german sausages?Originally posted by AlienoreTrying to find decent sausages that don't cost a fortune is not so easy to do in the UK. Our local Lidl always has small and large bratwurst which are low in carbs as they are 99% meat with spices - not packed with fillers like British bangers!Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
