  • terrible news for us in Japan!

The Japanese gov't has officially banned FLAX SEED!!! Because of trace amounts of cyanaide, flax is now only available in liquid oil form!

I am terribly upset over this, I use so much flax!! i need it!!

    I want to write a letter...but I don't know who to write ??

    Pammie:

I'm not sure it's available to you, but FYI - I have pretty much substituted Unprocessed Wheat Bran for most flax seed recipes with great success AND (from reading another post of yours this morning) it's far less calories! It makes a great hot cereal, and bakes well too. It's equal in fiber to the flax seed as well.

    Hope this helps!

Oh Pammie no! Carew packages will have to be sent from the states. What about an organic certified seed?

Bob's Red Mill says the seeds if kept in a cool dry place will stay good for over a yr go out and buy all you can store.

Joan for the recipes they work but bran has no omega3 oils which are essintial fatty acids our bodies need.

But I am glad to hear the wheat bran has less calories, I guess I will try using it more now.

I never even thought of that, 2big. I do take a fatty acids supplement -- is that good enough or should I go back to the flax seed for my cereal?

            You think of everything!!! :hug

Joan if you are swallowing the oils and those cals then you don't need the seeds too.The seeds can act as flour, oil, egg and thickener in cooked products. wheat bran only acts as a flour and while you could use the bran but the flax seeds give your baked food a fat for controlling any blood sugar spike.

Pammy that is so crap. I thought New Zealand went overboard with stuff (non GM corn and so on)

Any chance of growing your own for the future? Here in NZ flax is native and all over the place.

I hope you can at least buy it overseas cheaply. As for who to write to, find out who did the ban. There's a heap of info on google about the benefits of flax seed versus the oil.

Pammie, I think I can send it to you. Just let me know when you need some. I order it from Red Mill and gets here fairly quickly, and I think I asked and they will send internationally. (I have a US address) Anyway, just let me know and Ill send it to you. I can send it via BLACK CAT if I have your address.
