I got the carb options stuff from Safeway, which is now part of the Morrisons group. The Safeway i went to is quite a small one in the middle of Leeds City Centre. The product is called Carb Options and made by Knorr. The sauces come in 500g jars and contain 5.0g per 100g of which 3.5g is sugar. Free from artificial flavours and preservatives and like i said before the sweetner used is sucralose - top 3 ingredients are tomatoe puree (59%), water and tomotoes (8%).

As the name suggests it is aimed at the low carb market and i guess they have done their homework by using sucralose.

Will give it a try tonight and see what its like . . . .

Thanks Tringo, we have a safeway/morrisons in my town. I'm going to have a look for the stuff tomorrow night.

Any idea of the top of your head what the figures are on the side of the nutritional panel?

          Sounds good.

I found recently that the low fat version of Chicken Tonight (again Knorr) only has 2.39 g of carb per 100 grams. The lowest flavour / type is the creamy mushroom one.

The full fat version is anything up to 13g

Update on the Carb Options sauces from Knorr . . . tried the chilli sacue last night and i have to say i was quite impressed. Not overly spicey but a few chillis put that right.

The instructions on the back say use 500g of minced beef for one jar but to be honest you only need to use half that for that amount of minced meat. Therefore if my maths i right (and i'm pretty hot at adding ) if you take 500g of minced beef and only use 1/2 the jar then there will be 12.5g carb of which 9g is sugars which i think is pretty good

P.S. if anyone else needs some complicated calculations working out - i'm here all week ;-) . . . .

                  Sainsbury's

Hi all, you may or may not all be aware that Sainsbury's have now started stocking a wide range of products suited towards Atkineers.

Disclaimer - These products aren't allowed during Atkins, and personally I would recommend that you only have them very occasionally (maybe as a treat). as even though they say "Low Carb" on the packet - that just means they are "lower" in carbs, and can still be quite high. Just a clever marketing ploy really.

                  Enjoy them (in moderation)

ps I even saw flax seeds there this morning, something I have never come across before (I dont have a local Holland and Barrett).

                    Warning

I am hopping mad here at Helmans in the UK.

I was just wandering around my local Somerfield and noticed that they have a new promotional stand for carb options stuff from Hellmans.

I picked up a jar of their mayonaisse and it has more carbs in than their normal stuff.

Obviously its more expensive than their regular mayo so they are blatantly trying to rip consumers off, who think that by eating what is marketed as "low carb" they are doing well on a low carb diet. Absolutely disgusting.

Its ok for me, as I am a seasoned "label reader" and know what I can eat, I just feel for anyone who is starting out on Atkins.

ALWAYS READ THE LABEL. I THINKS IS THE BEST FORM OF ADVICE AFTER ALL OF THIS.
