I had no idea that starting this diet would make me so very homesick!!

After spending a considerable amount of time wandering through Tescos and searching for low-carb products, and even certain things like Jell-o brand...my mind was spinning and was missing home, I miss Family and friends ALL THE TIME. But this was the first time I've ever missed (Rainbow, Cub Foods) my local grocery stores! lol

I'm from Minnesota, US. and have been living in Ireland since Jan 2005. Would love to hear from anyone in Ireland about products theyve found useful. Also any other Americans who've settled out this way.

    Hi Junebug...
I'm Irish and so far the only one I've found on this board! Maybe your post will dig a few out! I'm sorry you've found us non atkins friendly but unfortunately us Irish love our carbs! Its quite frustrating I know. For me I'm on early days on this woe, and I prepare my foods pretty much from scratch... not having food brands like Rainbow etc, I'm not missing them!

It must be hard dieting when you miss home so much. Did you try Superquinn? They have hartleys no sugar jelly. They have just under 2gr of carb per pot. I have a couple of cartons in my cupboard for emergencies when I need something sweet and quick!

Anything in particular you are missing and I'll see if I can come up with a solution!

Hello! Congrats on your weight loss success!! How did you find induction? Have you moved on now?

Nice to hear from someone over this way! And yes, the irish love their carbs, it will be an adjustment not having chips with most meals! Unfortunatly, Ive developed an incredible addiction to chips and curry sauce, you wouldnt find anything like it in the states!

The one thing I'd like to find a substitution for is Jell-o brand sugar free pudding. Now, I can only explain it as a powderd dessert that resembles choc/vanilla mousse after milk is added. I tried asking my husband about this, he had no idea what I was on about.

I found the hartleys no sugar jelly, It does satisfy that craving for sugar. Any other suggestions?

        Re: Ireland

HI June ... curried chips...mmmmm..... An Irish staple! It goes back to the famine days, potato or die for us Irish! We love them any old way. My plan is to get to the stage of maintenance where I can have potatoes once a week. that would be great.

Sugar free pudding... now that I cant help you with. I've searched everywhere but can't find anything like that. But heres a little dessert that was passed on to me. So I'll pay it forward! If you haven't made this yet... do so immediately!!! It is amazing! And so easy to make - as easy as making that sf pudding I promise!

8oz sour cream, 8oz cream cheese, 8oz whipped cream, 1tsp vanilla extract, 1tsp lemon extract, 1/2 cup splenda

Mix everything together except the cream (takes a little bit of beating - but think of your biceps!), then fold in the whipped cream. I have these gorgeous teacups and saucers that were a gift that are great for desserts. I divide the mixture between 5 of these and then set in fridge for an hour or so. Lasts for a day or two.... Add berries if you are on owl...

I'm on OWl now, and its going well. Whats your stats? What stage are you on?

                Hi ThePerfect10
Thanks for the recipe, its looks sinful and evil! (in a very good way) Can't wait to give it a try... I'm on induction, Im pretty familiar with the atkins diet, but have never tried it before. Came off of lipotrim over a month ago. I did manage to lose 4 st, but it didnt feel healthy, and my hair started falling out in clumps. So...fingers crossed, I hope this works for me. some stats.....F/28 Starting weight 212 Goal weight 160?? (I'll throw a party when I hit 199 lol) ......I'm horrible about exercising, I really need to get my act together and start!

Must look into the challenges on here...
