I feel alone from Italy on every low-carb website... this coming from a country where bread, milk and honey are sacred because <they are in the Bible>... not an easy thing to deal with...

Strangely, around here, if someone consults a nutritionist, there are a lot of chances he will have a low carb diet prescribed... but only to loose weight... not as a permanent change of eating habits...

Of course, with these incredible and delicious pasta from the american Dreamfields company, now imported in Europe (5 g carb a portion), life is easier... They have even a better taste then any good pasta brand such as Barilla!!!

    Ciao, ciao!!!

    Re: Italy

Hiya Kiko and welcome from someone else living in Italy! Isn't it a great country?
I agree that Dreamfields is a wonderful pasta substitute... remember though that it's not induction legal. You have to wait until you're at the right OWL (ongoing weight loss) rung before adding it in to your diet.
Anyway... where do you get Dreamfields from in Italy? Am curious... I always had to order it from the UK.

    Happy losing!

      Re: Italy

      Hello!!!

      Finally, I am not alone...

I also get my pasta from UK... But an italian friend of mine wanted to import them in Italy (he is in import business) and Dreamfield has refuse him the right. They accept order from all over the world... except Italy!!! This is so strange because there would be a market with all the diabetes and obesity around here...

I nerver have more then 40 g at the time with a lot of sauce... One interesting thing about this pasta, but they cannot write it on the box, is that they are also low-calories because the starch is not absorbed but they still have to count the calories as if they were...

Did you tried the new vermicelli? Excellent. Anyway, I always serve them to all my italian guests without saying a word and they find them better then any other brand.

For the rest, it is a permanent fight here, against bread, foccaccia ect.... and of course, these group dinners at the local pizzeria. Well, I have learn to cope with it but you know how obsess they are about food...

And sadly, I see the Italians slowly adopting the bad eating habits of the americans which makes eating <easy> but so unhealthy. But they like so much to enjoy life and do not care about the rest... what can we say???

      Ciao, ciao!!!

        ?

I lived in Japan for about 4 years and it was the same thing, fast food, driving cars instead of walking/biking and wondering why their kids were getting so fat.

Bad habits are so much easier to pick up than good ones. It's sad to see people change for the worse to the detriment of their health, and even more sad not to be believed (usually) if you try to say anything.

Kiko... no, I haven't tried the Dreamfields vermicelli yet, though I do have a packet. I only have Dreamfields every now and again. Sometimes I use shiritaki noodles though (also bought from the UK). They are not a proper substitute, being very different, but acceptable as a base for a sauce.

Like you, I have small portions of Dreamfields with lots of sauce.

You'll probably find it gets easier to do Atkins in Italy and that, eventually, you won't miss things so much, although that seems unbelievable in this land of wonderful Pasta Pizza and Pane. It happened to me, to my enormous surprise.

          Hang in there.

I am sure that doing Atkins is of great help to climb the Kilimanjaro... well having 17 kilos less to carry up there should make a difference!!!

We should begin a thread listing what Atkins folks have done (like climbing this incredible mountain) and THAT THEY COULD NOT HAVE DONE BEFORE ATKINS!!! Not forgetting, of course, all the small changes it has made in our life, here and there, that gives us the power to continue this amazing eating plan!!!

Yes it's great that we're able to do so much more physically thanks to Atkins.
Re Kilimanjaro... that's part of the Pledging Flights Challenge. Jimmie (who leads the challenge) keeps accurate records of all climbs and the statistics are staggering.
The challenge is open to anyone, at any time. It's good fun.
