  • What's the 2nd time around been like?

Just curious to see how people on the 2nd time around view it. I am on my second time around. The weight is coming off at about the same pace. Getting back on wasn't too difficult for me either. I picked the day and I have stuck with it.

I know a lot of people say that the weight comes off harder the second time or that its harder to get back on the wagon. Do you think it matters how much time was between your two attempts? I was off the wagon for about 6 months.

I actually think the 2nd time has been easier. I knew the plan this time from the beginning, how it works, what to expect, etc.

It's been easier for me to. I don't allow myself any cheats like I did before(well, an occasional Atkins bar in an emergency). Also, when I look back, after the initial woosh the first time I'm losing faster this time. Not sure if I had a woosh to start this time - I weighed in on day 6. In 20 days I've lost 10lbs, and the first time over the same period I'd lost 5. I'm exercising this time and staying on plan. I think it boils down to being more committed that I can't "treat" (aka sabotage) myself this time. If I do, I'll be much more likely to stop at one small thing (not order a pizza and not want to "waste" it so continue eating it the next day!).

I hope everyone's having an easier time of it - if not on the scale, then at least in your minds!

I agree with you all. This time has been much easier for me. The weight has come off at the same rate as the first time for me as well. You know the rules, what to expect. Knowing that Atkins works because I've done it before really keeps me on track.

I've also noticed that this time, I don't obesess over the scale like I did my first go around. I think I obsessed the first time beacause I was amazed that a WOE (after trying so many) was actually working for me. Now I take the scale out once a month, and mostly go by the way my clothes fit.

          exactly, same here!!!
Its so much easier for me now. I know what happen to make me fall off the wagon in 2003 also, so that helps. I KNOW my weak areas and what to avoid. In 2003 i would go well I will just eat WHAT I want ONE day a week and it wont hurt!! :anger I gave into food tememation when there was junk food around, and I was such a scale slave!! This time around is sooooo much easier. I can smell popcorn and not think about cheating, which is a HUGE plus for me, because i use to eat a bag of popcorn by myself atleast 3 to 4 times a week, the smell would just reel me in. Now I can smell it poppin, and SMILE because I KNOW I have CONTROL!!! And the rewards of saying NO will make me a healthier, smaller, happier person!! :icondance

Its actually been harder for me this time. The plan changed from the plan I followed in 2000 and for whatever reason, it just seems to be taking longer for me to lose the weight. But I also have developed hyperthyroid and take a medication (when I remember to take it) that slows the process. I also feel that I get depressed in not seeing the difference on the scale.
I don't know why. But oddly, exercise has come a little easier this time around.

Wishing everyone a successful 2nd time around !!!

It was WAY harder for me to get back on track. Once I finally got back on I did better.

It was definitely harder for me to get back on the wagon! But I'm losing the weight at about the same pace as I did before which is about a pound a day during induction. But overall I think that it'll be easier this time because I've realized what my downfall was before.

                  Hey everyone :wave

Good to see that people are taking a stand in their lives and jumping back on the Atkins wagon! To all who has lost weight during this second time around CONGRATULATIONS! I am re-doing atkins and I must say, this time around has been wayyy more difficult. I don't know if its because I have added stressors in my life or what. First time for me was a breeze. I was so focused you couldn't pay me any sum of money to cheat. Now the slightest thing wheels me into cheat zone. What I have done is put fruit into my diet (low glycemic ones such as strawberries, cantelope or honeydew). I know I know...its forbidden but it truly is helping me stay away from the sugar. Am I wrong for this? Your answers and advice are deeply appreciated.

Kelani, if you're sticking to induction fruit and berries aren't legal. If you're going to work your way up to those rungs then they'll be legal. But I'd been up berries last time so after I inducted this time I went back to my old rung and climbed the ladder from there.

what if I'm still under 20grams and meeting my protein/fat daily intake goals and ketostix show Im in ketosis? Will the fruit still be illegal? If yes, than why is it illegal if the ketostix show I am burning ketones which means fat? I always did have a problem following the logic of this even after reading DANDR 2002. :confused

It's been very hard this time around. I feel the cravings are worse and I'm less satisfied with the food. I haven't noticed any huge weight loss, but my official weigh day is Wed, so I'm not really counting anything until then.

I'm still on induction and working on my two weeks.

Hi Kelani, sounds like you're doing the modified owl. Certainly if you're still in ketosis then your body is fine with fruit and berries. The whole reason for going through the carb ladder as written is to test your response to different foods and since you've already discovered your response there's no reason to go back now. I'm also fine with fruits and berries, but I really also enjoyed adding the legumes because I get to have hummus!

I'm finding that it is much harder this time around. For whatever reason, I'm having a hard time getting through even one day of clean induction. But I keep trying anyway! If I can just get through Day 1, then every day after that will be easier.

I'm also finding it a bit harder.

Sticking to the induction list isn't hard, but the weight isn't coming off as easily as the first time. I'm on day 7 and after having dropped ONE pound, it's back.

Could being in the menopause stage (without HRT, etc.) be causing the slowdown?
