  • Confused about Turnips

Hi. 2nd time rounder here. I read somewhere that Turnips are ok in induction. Then I read that someone wanted fruit so chose a few low glycaemic ones.
But then I read that turnips are a high glycaemic food. :confused

Im sooooo confused. Can anyone advise?

    Hello gocat!

You can eat turnips on induction. You can have up to one cup per day if you don't eat more than 2 cups of salad per day. Turnips are a little bit higher in carbs than other veggies that's why they're limited to one cup per day on induction. They have about 2.3g of net carbs per 1/2 cup. But fruit is not acceptable on induction at all. You can have berries when you get to the fourth rung of OWL. But we both have a little ways to go before we get to that! Check out the sticky in the main atkins forum with the wallet-sized food list. That should help answer some of your questions about acceptable foods. I found it to be quite helpful. Hope I answered your question.

      Hi msnicole816

Yes I realised that about turnips but what I cant understand is that if they are a high glycaemic they are allowed but low glycaemic fruit is allowed or have I got that wrong?

Had some fried sliced turnip with my lunch. Was scrummy :icondance

I edited my first post so I hope that helps! Berries aren't allowed until the fourth rung of OWL because we add foods back in the order that makes us less likely to have cravings. Even though turnips are higher in carbs than some other veggies are that are allowed on induction and we can only have one cup, they are not as likely to cause cravings as fruit is. That's what induction is all about stabilizing our blood sugar and ridding our bodies of foods that cause cravings.

Turnips don't have a high glycemic index. In fact, most of the veggies in the Induction Foods list are not high glycemic index foods.

If you go to the link here, scroll to the second table that lists the foods. Turnips are listed in the "neglible impact on blood glucose column"
