  • Avoiding temptation

Like most of us, there are moments in my average day, as well as assorted unpredictable moments, when I get the urge to eat. (It hasn't happened to me yet, but I'm only 2 days in). This is what worked for me last time:

    1. Prepare in advance at least 5 different high fat, low carb snacks. I keep baggies of olives, little containers with 2 devilled eggs each, baggies of deep fried kale, string cheese, jello/cream cheese mixture (in case of a sweet craving), baggies of roast chicken legs with skin, baggies of nuts (when on the nuts rung), containers of chopped cucumber with blue cheese dressing. Keep at least 1 of them with you at all times.

    2. Avoid situations where your willpower will be lowered. For me, this meant absolutely no alcohol (In May we went to TGIFRidays and I had the 1 carb margarita and by the time I was done, I was ready for the brownie madness dessert and had NO problem saying "yes, of course! What the heck!") and pretty much not eating out until I've had 2 weeks of solid no-cheat low carbing induction.

    3. When the urge comes, I IMMEDIATELY eat something high in fat. What I learned last time was that most of the itme when I craved potato chips, it was the FAT my body wanted, but my head translated it as "potato chips!!!!". I do not stop and consider how much I've eaten today, or whether I can just not eat. I eat. IMMEDIATELY. You'd be suprised how quickly the urge goes away when you get some fat in your body!

    4. Do NOT buy any prepackaged low carb foods. I KNOW the 1 carb tortilla chips look great, but they are made with FLOUR. FLOUR will trigger a carb craving. I KNOW the low carb icecream looks yummy, but it's BAD, BAD, BAD! If you have it, throw it away!!!!!!!! Keep only natural products available.

    We're gonna make it!

Awesome post thanks! That is so true, when I crave sweets, I can usually get rid of that craving by eating something protein based, chicken and a wee bit of sour cream works for me instantly.
