  • New Here!

I just wanted to re-introduce myself. I was on Atkins previously in 2003. I lost 25 pounds in about 6 weeks, then gave up....thinking I could switch to a diet that was "easier" for me. Now I weigh easily 10 pounds more than when I started the first time.

Anyway, I am determined to stick with it this time. I've found that this is the only diet that can get through my stubborn metabolism. My challenges with Atkins are 1) I don't have time to cook and 2) I don't have time to exercise.

My mom has agreed to help me with making meals that are Atkins-friendly. I have come up with some exercise that I can squeeze in while I'm at work (three short 10-minute jaunts through the building, squats while I'm in the bathroom, etc...). I have four kids and a full-time job, so time for anything is scarce with me.

I remember these awesome "cold-cut wraps" I used to make last time, and I'm looking forward to those for tomorrow!

Welcome to the group! We've all had setbacks but having a place for support is so important. I hope we'll be able to help you through it.

I know what it's like to not have time, it's great that your mom has offered to help. Everyone seems to agree that this site is a great place for recipes. http://users3.ev1.net/~fontlady/recipes.html I haven't tried any yet but I plan on making the Italian Cassarole tonite! I'm going to make a double recipe so i can have plenty of leftovers. Anyway, you might check the site out if you're not already familiar with it.

        GOOD LUCK!
        Erica

wish you luck on your second time around! You sound pretty motivated!

I also have a family and work full time, and I find the only thing that works for me for exercise, is to get up ahead of everyone else (around 6 a.m) and do my ecliptical machine for about 20 minutes each morning...I even made up my own exercise tape with my favourite work out songs, just to motivate me! I try to do about 10 minutes of floor exercises afterwards (sit ups, leg raises, etc). I try to do it everyday, but have been averaging about 5 days a week doing it...! Giong to aim for 30 minute on the machine and 15 minutes floor exercises..and work my way up from there!

Good luck to you and welcome!

              Welcome back!

It CAN be done with four kids and a full-time job. Yes, indeed. You have a great plan for the exercise. You can also bribe your kids into taking a walk wiht you in the evening. Or get them to do a dance tape or yoga tape with you (honestly, no matter how old!) every now and then.

And what most of us have discovered here to be absolutely crucial is to hang out on this message board. Don't know what the power is, but there's SOMETHING about signing on and checking the posts that keeps us going. Not to mention the ability to see that others are struggling with the same things we are. So if you can sneak it in at work, or first thing in the morning or last thing at night or ALL of the above (for those of us who are now addicted!) it's the BEST!

              How old are your kids?

Hey, I remember when I had kids at those ages!

Well, other exercise could be: taking them to a park, going for walks pushing strollers, and, of course, RUNNING AFTER THE TODDLERS! lol

I wish I could come babysit for you so that you have time for yourself....

Update [Day 4]: I made it through my first weekend! I've lost 2.5 pounds already... I know it's bad to weigh every day, but I can't help myself. I don't get discouraged at slight gains, so I should be fine.

I'm going to Six Flags Great America tomorrow - so hopefully, I'll find some Atkins friendly food there somewhere. Eating a big breakfast of bacon, eggs, and sausage before we leave.

I can't wait to see the results of the first 14 days!

It's not bad to weigh every day, so long as you don't let the results govern your life!

Have a GREAT time at the amusement park!

Checking in again! Day 6, and down 3 pounds. I'm thrilled. I am planning on taking a 1/2 hour walk tonight to keep things moving in the right direction.

I did great at Six Flags! I had a hamburger with no bun, a grilled chicken salad, some shredded beef, and some green beans. I also was walking the entire day. The scale didn't drop any though, but I'm not worried...it will.

                          I am so excited!
