  • Awesome club title... can i join in too?

    Hi everyone ~

I am new to the message boards and thought i would introduce myself here. I posted the other day over at Century Club and thought that this board would be a big help as well. I'll probably be spending the bulk of my time between the two boards, if no one minds! It is so wonderful to have this sort of community support.

Anyway, i am 30 years old and have been struggling with my weight for several years now. I was always really thin until my father passed away unexpectantly my senior year in college. After that the pounds just added on and added on. I was lost in my own little world of denial and compulsive carbing.

Finally, in the summer of 2003 i went on Atkins and lost 25 pounds!!! Then i got pregnant... (seems to happen that way a lot, doesn't it?) It was a complete surprise to me, but a wonderful surprise.

Instead of being smart about my diet i took the opportunity to eat every carb i could get my pregnant hands on. "The BABY wants Taco Bell... the BABY wants ice cream!" And then i gained 85 pounds! I ended up being very fortunate to deliver a healthy 10.2 pound baby girl, who we have named Luna. However, because of her size, she did not move down the birth canal, and i had to have a C-Section.

So now Luna is a year old! And i am starting, again, my committment to myself and my weight loss. This week i have eliminated 9 pounds! I really need to stick to this. I am hoping that the message boards will help. As i said over at the Century Club, my husband weighs about 135 and my best friend is a size 4. They are very supportive, however, it is difficult to connect with them about this challenge. I am hoping to make some good friends here who will understand my position.

Thanks for being here and letting me share!

Welcome aboard! You're doing the right thing, coming to this board as well as the Century Club! There's something about starting again that, well, makes us need each other in a different way!

Congratulations on your beautiful 1 year old girl! I'll bet she keeps you busy! Are you able to exercise?

Just fyi, some of the things that are happening on this particular board are:

    1. A few people have made a commitment to ONLY weigh on the first of each month.

    2. A few people are in Day Two of a 7-day No Cheat challenge.

    3. Most of us are addicted to this Board. I'm thinking of forming a 12-step group: "Hi, I'm Finelly, and I'm addicted to the Message Boards...."lol

    4. As you can see, most of us check in a couple of times a day to say what our exercise was and how we're doing. We look forward to hearing from you!

Thank you, Finelly, for the welcome! I think it is wonderful that everyone is checking in with exercise and progress... count me in! This is exactly the kind of support that i need. I have been cheat free since the 21st, when i started the program.

I have started exercising for the first time in almost two years this past week. I have been doing the "Firm" video system at home. Tonight i am about to have a salad and then take a walk with my daughter and husband.

I started "lurking" (doesn't that just sound so... dirty?) on the boards this past week and finally decided to join in on the fun and community. I think it is so wonderful to have this sort of support and look forward to being a part of the boards! :wave

Hey DragonflyMoon, welcome to the boards!

I can totally relate to you when you talked about your pregnancy and about "baby wants this or that" , I gained quite a bit of weight with my older son who is now 11, and there was that feeling that you must eat for two. I remember I drank 2% milk like it was water during my pregnancy too, which was bad.

Welcome aboard and I'm sure you will find many supportive people! ha :hug

:wave I totally understand the pg weight gain as well! I lost alot of my pg weight when I was breastfeeding, but now I am up to what I weighed when I was pg. And I gained quite a bit.

Congrats on your baby girl! Oh, and I still blame my 16 yr old for my stretch marks :lol

Breastfeeding was super for weight loss! Also i was barely eating anything. I ended up losing 50 pounds in the first two months or so of having the baby. But when i stopped breast feeding (i had a breast reduction in 1996 and wasn't making enough milk) after two months i started gaining again. So i went back up 30 pounds. I was shocked when i went to the Dr.'s office last visit.

I wonder about the stretch marks... i have tons!

Now, see, I EXPECTED To lose a ton during breastfeeding. ANd also not to get my period. Alas, my period would start immediately after the 6 week postpartum exam, and the weight didnt come off until AFTER I weaned the babies....go figure!

Welcome DragonflyMoon. I too just joined this group and am look forward to coming every day to help support each other on. It really does help to have someone who understands what you are going thru.

I also looked forward to losing weight when I was breast feeding but it didnt happen for me. My girlfriend had a baby 2 weeks later and her weight fell right off her the entire time. My weight held on until I weaned as well. The period came back week 7 and shortly there after I was pg all over again. Have stretch marks and as I lost my initial 65# a few years ago on my first round of Atkins, they began to go away..........at least lighten to match my regular skin tone, and lost most visibility of them. There is hope for them yet!

It really helps to view stretchmarks as "accessories"......<g>
