My first time on atkins was September 2003, I managed to lose 40 lbs, nearly all of my goal weight. I fell off the wagon due to emotional problems. Since then I've tried atkins many times over, and failed. My last serious attempt I lost 5lbs, and after exercising an hour or more a day 5x a week, I lost one inch off my waist (in three months). I got frustrated and once again fell off the wagon. I know this WOL works, it just seemed so much easier the first time.

I will tell you honestly that the ONLY difference between this re-start and the several others earlier this year is that I am on this board. I check in constantly. We've all gotten closer and closer. We understand the pitfalls and the successes. We are our own best motivation!

Re: Tried atkins numerous times
Hi everyone my name is Cas. I have been on Atkins several different times over the years. I have had some successes and plenty of failures. Anyway here I am back at it again. I am mid way into my fifth week today. I did good the first two weeks, my husband and I doing it together.Well he has reached his goal weight , but I have a good way to go yet. I have increased his carbs at meals and introduced some new foods . My problem is that when I try to go off the induction to the next step I stop loosing. Do I have to stay on the 14 day induction a while longer ? I feel like I am spinning my wheels. Having a hard time cutting back on my carbs. Help me I really want to loose more . Cas

When you "go off induction onto the next step", what are you adding to your menu?Started Atkins 2d time 6/20/05

Re: Tried atkins numerous times
Well, to tell you the truth I think I have lost control. This week end has been expecially hard for me , as we are celebrating my husbands birthday. We have had a couple of vodka drinks, but used club soda and lime wedges and splenda. This morning I had a wedge of honey due and three cherries with a mock danish. I had a teaspoon and a half of low carb strawberry jam , and a tablespoon of lowcarb peanut butter. All the foods we have been eating are low carb, but I just seem to have lost my self disipline and need help to refocus again . Thanks for your response. Cas

Re: Tried atkins numerous times
Ok, well, I can see where your problem is. When you go off Induction, you proceed onto the Ongoing Weight Loss (OWL) rungs. Like a ladder, you climb each rung, about 2 weeks at a time. You do not immediately start having alcohol or danish, etc.
The FIRST rung after induction is to add an additional 5 carbs worth of veggies to your menu. No wheat, no alcohol, no fruit. Just veggies.
If you don't have the Atkins book, get it now. Read the section on OWL. If you DO have the book, read it now!
You can do it! You just have to follow the rules and procedures!Started Atkins 2d time 6/20/05

Re: Tried atkins numerous times
I need help. Have tried Atkins a few times but do not seem to be very successful. This last time, I did everything by the book for an entire month and only lost 5 lbs. Yes, I even gave up my nightly vodka with diet Pepsi. :>) I do not exercise - spend a lot of time behind a computer, unfortunately. My mother told me that losing weight would be a challenge after menapause but this is rediculous. I need a boost of encouragement from someone that is having the same problems as I am having with this diet. :>) Thanks for listening. :>)LPGood luck, everyone.

Re: Tried atkins numerous times
Hiya! Glad you found us! Can you answer a few questions?
1. How much do you need to lose?
2. How many inches did you lose when you tried for a month?
3. Are you getting any exercise?Started Atkins 2d time 6/20/05

Re: Tried atkins numerous times
Hi, Finelly. I would like to lose 50-60 lbs. I did not measure inches. I know. I should have but didn't. :>) No, I do not get any exercise. I'm considering joining a gym because I do not like the heat (live in FL) and there are no sidewalks on my road. Tried riding a bike a few times but I kept losing to the cars. :>) What I need to do is take more control of myself. I have an A-type personality but not when it comes to me. :>)
Good luck, everyone.

Re: Tried atkins numerous times
Well, I hope you are giving the Atkins woe another try! You can do it, and we're here to support you!
DEFINATELY start measuring every 2 weeks. I'm not even weighing this time around. It's the inches that matter and the scale is so weird....what with water retention, etc. There were times last time when I'd go a week or two or three without losing more than .5 lb and I was losing 6-7 inches a week! Go figure!
DEFINATELY join a gym. Exercise is not negotiable. Start small, maybe 5-10 min of cardio. Take advantage of any aqua aerobics classes at the gym - they are fabulous!
DEFINATELY stay close to this message board! We'll help you out anytime, and you'll quickly find yourself helping others!Started Atkins 2d time 6/20/05
