  • Hi, starting again on the 5th

Hi everyone! I'm new to this forum, but not to ADBB. Its pretty cool to have a place to find support in starting over.
I'm am starting on the 5th because my bday is the 4th and I promised myself to only live 1 day of my 26th year in carb-sin. I'm definetly not getting any younger, that's for sure.
I am excited because I know the good things that are to come. Especially clothes shopping!!
I have dieted with Atkins several times, losing 20 lbs a couple times before I had my daughter. I reached all time high after pregnancy of 209-ouch! I dieted here and there and got down to 185. In July of 03 I trully commited to Atkins in a different way and had my most succesful loss. You can see in my sig in Oct 03 I was 145. I lost another 5 lbs and started to lose focus. Cheating here and there, I'd gained back about 10 lbs and stayed there for a long while. Then I competely fell off the wagon and gained 10 more.
I've been trying to restart but not really succeeding all year. My willpower is just so weak. I've been really terrible.
But its a different story now because I'm doing it by the book and with total commitment to a lifelong goal of losing weight and maintaining it.
sorry this was so long, just wanted to introduce myself and it ended up a book~ c ya all on tues!

    Welcome! Happy Birthday! (early)

One of the best things about starting over is that we've already done it. We KNOW that we will lose. We KNOW that we will feel fantastic. Sounds like you are bringing that with you on this new venture!

Do yourself a favor and stick like glue to the Second Time Around Forum. It really is amazing how it helps!

You did really well before so I'm sure you can do it again.
Don't forget 2nd time is slower, older is slower, so you may need to compensate with a little more exercise than before (work up to it...not all at once)

      You can do it again!

Second time around is slower? Hmmm. I don't know that we would all agree on that. I personally haven't weighed, but here's what I know:

        1. By the end of Day 1, I was feeling GREAT.

        2. No induction flu.

        3. Immediate loss of all bloating

        4. Ketosis began at the end of day 2.

You haven't heard of the "Golden Shot"?
That means the very first time you lose weight is goes pretty well. But then if you regain that weight...especially in a short period of time...you're body will resist losing that weight the 2nd time.
          Here's something I found:

          http://www.lowcarbluxury.com/goldenshot.html

For whatever reason — and there are many theories — we all (especially females) seem to have this One Golden Shot. The first time we ever embark on a low-carb eating plan if we do it RIGHT and if we don't cheat, we get some really amazing results without appreciable sacrifice or difficulty. I often see people who lose quickly and effortlessly while taking in around 35-55 grams of carbs per day and staying in ketosis. But should you falter and leave the diet for an appreciable amount of time — especially long enough to gain all or much of the weight back — the next time around takes more effort, weight loss is slower, and it takes more carb restriction to get results.
I don't know how much validity there is to it...I think it's partly due to age. As we age it's just harder to lose weight. So what you did 5 years ago make not work as well today. When I was 20 I could eat whatever I wanted and not gain an ounce. Nowadays I can look at a cookie and gain a pound.

            Hi mojo,

I feel like Im in the same boat, I initially lost my weight Sept 03. I gained back about 25 lbs. Everyone says I look the same, they can't tell. Please PM me if you want. I think a buddy might help? I myself am a 26f/mother of two.

Yes, I've heard of the golden shot.

I also have heard that it is not entirely true. Many, many people have the same quick success other times around.

              Thank goodness!

Re: Hi, starting again on the 5th

I am finding that the second (third) time around I am losing at the same rate by the inches lost. Thankfully. I am not getting on a scale so cant give you actual pounds but with everything else it is working just as quickly. The "One Golden Shot" is not for everyone. It is harder the older we get but that really doesnt have anything to do with Atkins. Thats just age..... unfortunately!

Welcome Mojo! I know what you mean about willpower. Visit us often and we will give you as much support as you need!

With the second time around, I'm not sure if its slower because of the golden shot, or if its my own fault because I have a harder time sticking to it (more likely this for me). But its definitely going slower. Plus, we tend to change habits, so that could slow it down. When I did Atkins before my job was a little more active. Now, I sit all day. It will probably depend on your lifestyle.

                  Wishing you the best!!

You took the words right out of my keyboard, mojo! I was joking around to my neighbor just now that I didn't want to actually tell any of my co-workers that I was on Atkins, again, because it will be my 9th attempt at it. haha It's been a struggle this year to get things back on track but I committed to do it 100% clean and BY THE BOOK and so far the last 2 weeks i've had great results. Good Luck!

Re: Hi, starting again on the 5th

                        Thank you all!!

I've got a feelin' I'm gonna like it here in STAC! I can feel the love

As for "one golden shot" ~ I really believe we are all different, for some of us the theory could be true. For me I can't really remember the first time how much I lost and how fast so I'm not trully comparing this time to that. I will most likely feel like I'm losing weight slowly until I get to 145 again....cuz thats where I want to be

But I am gonna work slowly up to excercizing again.

Is it me or is excersize the hardest word to spell??

Thanks for all the kind words!

No, exercize/exercise is NOT the most difficult word. The most difficult word is FLORDIA. I know this because this is how my fingers type the name of that state down south......<g> I think, quite frankly, that the map-makers were just wrong, wrong, wrong, possibly dyslexic.

Well, please just ignore my ignorance of the word excercize. Every way you can possibly spell it looks right to me, I'll never remember.

My theory is that if you can figure out what the word is, spelling doesn't count!
