  • New Again (Introduction)

    Hi Group,

    Just wanted to say hello and let everyone know I am here. My name is Mike and I am on my second time at Atkins. The last time was between 2001-2002. I went from 212lbs down to 160lbs. My biggest mistake was like many other people I am afraid. Once I got to where I wanted to be I went back to my old eating (and drinking) habits and the next thing I know I am breaking 190lbs again.

    I started again on June 25th and since that time I have dropped from 193lbs to 188lbs. I have been pretty faithful to induction but have slipped once a weekend when I allow myself one glass of red wine. I notice the following morning my ketone levels drop but are still present and the following day they are back to my norm.

    I have never posted to this board before. I did use the low-carb Usenet group before but visiting it again now I find it really gone out of control and many posts can be pretty negative.

    Anyways, I am a 43yr old male, married, and live in the Downtown Los Angeles area called Mid-Wilshire. I work with computers for a living and it takes a lot of my time. I have a membership at a 24hr Fitness but am currently trying to get myself motivated to go more regularly. Once a week don't cut it!!

          Well, hello there, fellow S. Californian!!!!

          This board is NOT negative - as I'm sure you'll see when you look at the threads in this forum. We keep each other's spirits up, so check back CONSTANTLY (some of us practically live here....)

          As for working out, I know what you mean. I have had a membership at LA Fitness for 3 years. Used it sporadically. It's just hard to GET GOING.... but once I had started going for 5 days, I was pretty hooked. Though I have to say, some days I have to really force myself to go....but then I feel great afterwards.

          We're all struggling with getting the daily exercise thing going. One thing that helps is to make a posted commitment to a certain amount, then we post a daily "exercise check in" to let ourselves and others know how we did. Really, just getting ANY exercise is good at this point!

          What kind of computer work do you do?

            Welcome, Mike, I have been a part of this group an entire day myself, so I am quite the regular.

            I used to live in LA, so I know just about where you are. The weather is so nice out there. I do miss it terribly. It is awfully humid here in Orlando. Anyway, welcome to the group. It sounds like you are doing great.

            what the rungs mean to me:
            rung 1 - more veggies
            rung 2 - dairy (some milk in coffee)
            rung 3 - seeds, nuts (mostly sprinkled on salads)
            rung 4 - berries, melon
            rung 5 - wine -
            rung 6 - beans, hummus
            rung 7 - other fruits
            rung 8 - carrots/ potatoes (nah, prolly not)
            rung 9 - whole grains (fresh Dutch breads...)
            Major Goal - 128 lbs/ healthy range
            (on to pre-maintenance)

              Be careful with this place. There are a lot of odd women here who want to see the forum men dress up in tutu's! Don't fall for it!

                  You also have to be careful of the addiction syndrome. You just cannot get anything done because you are so addicted to this board!!!!

                      Hi Mike!

                      Sounds like you're doing well on your second time around!
                      As for the tu tu's.....I'd say go for it. Find your inner ballerina...
