Re: Induction flu second time around

I am really suffering with the "flu" right now! I thought it was bad the first time around, this time it is much, much worse. I keep telling myself that I didn't cheat at all for 8 months when I was on Atkins before because I was so afraid of getting the flu again, I just need to remember how horrible I feel right now!

I'm also going through the boo-hoo poor me, why do I have to be on a diet when other people around me can eat whatever they like and still not gain weight. But I'm still 13 pounds lighter than I was the last time I was on Atkins and I have learned from my mistakes. The two things I did wrong.... 1. I stayed on Extended Induction for 8 months! I was afraid to move on and try anything new, then one day, I just broke and started eating everything in sight. 2. I didn't vary my menu enough, I ate the same thing day after day until it just got too boring! What did I do right? I had the exercise down, I was walking 2-3 miles a day and lifting weights upper & lower every other day and I was drinking plenty of water. So those were two things that I did right that I had never gotten right before in my life. I guess it's just onward and upward from here! Chriss

Re: Induction flu second time around

      Hello Everyone,

I started my second (serious) induction last Monday. Day 8! Yay! The first time I had wonderful success w/ Atkins I lost over 30lbs and felt GREAT! For some reason, I went off Atkins and gained slowly at first and then over the holidays I really started gaining. Scared me so now I am back. Even though I was an avid reader of ADBB I never posted. Decided to join in the fun this time and help encourage everyone. THIS DIET WORKS.

Had a splitting headache over the weekend and decided to check this board to see if in fact it was the induction flu. Makes me feel better to have confirmation that it probably was. I suffer from depression this time of year too, so it encourages me to stay with the diet. When I was on it last time, I didn't have the blues through Jan. Feb, and March (but I did last year when I was off the diet). I was raised to believe that you can pull yourself out of depression and have learned that that isn't necessarily so, but I'd rather try atkins and exercise before going to the Dr. for meds.

Thanks for all the help I have received in the past and thanks in advance for the help I know I will received moving forward.

        Hi Candy,

Welcome! I am on day 8 too! I lost 52 pounds last time, gained back all but 13 (sigh) but I have learned some lessons. Post here! I think it might help you not feel so down, this is a great group of people that really do care and will reply back to your post. Chriss

          Chriss,

Cool! It will be nice knowing someone else is counting their days of success with me.

Well, I am in the same boat as some of you ... I lost about 40 the first time and have gained about 28 back. I am on day 2 1/2 and the funk is setting in now. I have stepped up the excecise this time though, so the onset seems to be much quicker. I will let you know tomorrow if I don't die...LOL.

              Craig

I trust you are through the funk and have survived it ok. I seem to be over it (day...um, 10!) and I feel really REALLY good. This feeling reminds me of what I accomplished when I was not longer under the influence of carbs. For 10 years I had become increasingly unhappy with the neighborhood I was raising my children in. It was our first home and when we purchased it the neighborhood had the chance of either improving or getting worse. Even though our block was a wonderful place the rest of the area took a turn for the worse. And I found myself feeling worse and worse about our lives (mind you I was eating carbs and hadn't discovered Atkins). After being on Atkins for 6 months I got off my tail, convinced my husband and began the sometimes tiring search for a better home in a good neighborhood. We successfully moved into a lovely home (a palace!) 4 months later. I firmly believe that if I had not found this new WOE I would still be living in a place that made me feel like my life was less than it could be. Talk about life changing.

Somehow, I forgot why I needed to follow this WOL and fell off the wagon. (Slowly at first.) So slowly I think that I didn't even realize what went wrong. Sure, I knew I wasn't eating right and would likely gain weight, but I forgot how it would mess with my outlook on life. Geeze, if I would have remembered I would have NEVER gone wild Christmas 2004. I thought since I was so successful with Atkins I'd have no trouble going back. Here I am, one year later FINALLY getting a grip. PHEW.

Good luck Craig and to all of us who have found there way back.

It is amazing how we easily forget. I had to break a leather belt to get my attention. I am in the middle of the funk right now, but still feel better than I did last week because I know what to expect on the other side.

I feel like I am coming out of the flu now. I weighed for the first time this AM and am down 4.1lbs.

I think the flu was easier the 2nd time around because I never went back to caffinated coffee so I wasn't dealing with weaning myself off coffee this time so it only last a few days instead of a few weeks!

Re: Induction flu second time around

I am desperate to get the induc flu cos I know then that I am on the right track. Unfortunately after a week of puritanical atkins living...nada, zip , zilch, nuthin.

*sigh* I can't remember how long after I started that the induc flu kicked in...( just that it was a killer dose) can someone jog my memory. I know I must sound insane but last time I didn't start to lose any weight till the flu hit me... and as I haven't budged an ounce this time round yet.. I need that dam flu to hit me!

OH would it have anything to do with the fact that I haven't gained any weight since I fell off the wagon 12 months ago... am I maybe still in the zone? I wasn't eating strict atkins but maybe I was doing kinda a modified OWL or something. I don't know I wasn't taking much notice the only rule I had was no bread... anything else was fair game.

Have you tried walking 2miles in the AM and 2miles in the PM? If you do that, and are eating the proper things you will have no choice but to go into K.

Did you start drinking caffinated coffee again? I noticed my induction flu was much shorter this time, I think it's cause I never switched back to caffinated coffee. I've only lost 4 pounds in almost 3 weeks, last time I had lost around 12 by this time, so I feel your pain!

Re: Induction flu second time around

I only have a decaf now and again ... I think maybe only 2 since I started other than that only sky juice. I woke up this morning with the headach from ****....maybe the flu is on the way.

I am trying to fit in as much walking as I can Craig K... me thinks it is no where near enough though... if I could just stop feeling so darn tired all the time I might be more motivated....

4 pounds in 2 weeks is a great loss America.. compared to nothing it is 400% better and if you are exercising it is probably more considering the muscle gain balancing it out.

So the bottom line is.. exercise I spose...and take some nurofen for the headache

                                I did.

Start off with 1-2 miles and increase it.
