  • How to stick in exercise when you're busy?

    Hi folks-

    I have a question for you all. Yesterday this project started that means I have to be at school from about 4 until 10 pm. This is in addition to the meetings and whatnot that I have during the day, and whatever work i have to do on top of that.

    What are some good things to do when you just do'nt have a lot of time? I'm thinking I might just walk the stairs every once in a while during the hour when I'm waiting for people to finish. I can't really leave for very long, but 5 min should be okay (This is a psych experiment and i'm the experimenter). I can't really work up a sweat because I have to look professional. I already look like an undergrad, so wearing gym clothes wo'nt help my authority any.

    I already walked to the bank, walked to the gym and was going to work out (a meeting got cancelled) but I had no gym shoes in my locker! (dumb!) I'm trying to get up earlier to exercise but that's been hard since I'm not used to that.

    So this leads to my question: What do other people do when they have no good block of time to exercise?

    See if you can do 3 10-minute walks a day. This could be running an errand between things, or walking up and down the stairs, or just parking further away at school than you normally do.

    Another thing to do is see if there's a workout tape you really like and try to do it when you get home...but I know you are probably totally drained.

    I don't know what I'm going to do when school starts again in the fall. As the teacher, i have to get to school early (7 a.m.) and it's 40 min away, so an early a.m. workout isn't going to work. I'm not good at maintaining consistency later in the day, so....what I'm trying to do this summer is just get into the routine of exercise so that I WANT to do it in the fall!

      I don't have an answer for you. I am not a morning person, so its hard to recommend that to someone, but if you want to fit it all in at once, that seems to be your only option. Or late at night, but then your adrenaline is rushing, so it will be hard to go to sleep. Maybe start with getting up atleast 15 minutes early for exercise and work your way from there.
