Finelly posted that if we were having problems that we needed to set ourself up a post and I thought WOW, thats a cool idea. I have been having problems losing. Actually, I haven't lost a pound in weeks/months/a very long time.
One of the medications that I take is on Dr Atkins, Dr Schwarzbein, Dr Sears lists of no nos. They all, to a doctor, said that beta blockers block more than betas (?) But I have lost 50 pounds going from 270 to 220 and now back up to 230. But then I quit losing. Nothing Nana, Zilch for months and after a while, you descide that okay, something is wrong, I need to try something else. I decided Dr Schwarzbein, still low carb. Didn't work, gained a few pounds
But, let me tell you, eat a carb and your lost for ever, all you do is crave carbs more and more. Gained more
Then I decided what this board needed was a Second Time Around Club and Tom, bless his heart agreed and this is were I hang out.
Well I just got back from the doctor. I have kidney infection, and he wants me to drink cranberry juice, (there is no sugar free in Japan) eat yogurt (Im trying to do a clean induction) and the only Atkins friendly thing he did say was drink plenty of water.
    So back to square one.

Hey there! Have I got suggestions for you re: the kidney infection! I'm a veteran!

First of all, you can get cranberry TABLETS. No sugar. I don't know if you have a health food store or vitamin place in Japan, but I can even get them at Walgreens here. They are just as good as drinking the juice!

Second of all, the yogurt thing is overrated. That is to prevent a yeast infection when you take the antibiotics. Don't bother. Grab the Monistat and use it.

I'm still on my first cup of coffee and will respond later to the rest of the issues....

actually you can just eat cranberries for your infection issues it will deal with the juice you get in the stores isn't the pure juice that the lab experiments showed worked to alter the pH and help kill the bacteria in the bladder but it has now become an urban legend that cranberry juice you buy in the crocery store works LOL

you can use blueberries too as they keep the bacteria from sticking to the bladder walls and help flush them out.

instead of the yogurt you can use your prophalictic bacteria capsuls and some of that oil of oregano stuff the candida forum folk post about. garlic is good too. you don't want a yeast infection if you are prone to them is all.

      hope you feel better soon.

Well Thorn....If none of the options that Finelly and 2big offered you are doable...

I understand that you want to stay on Atkins and that this means alot to you obviously....But when it comes to your health...I think its best to follow the doctors order after all that what they go to school to learn and I don't think he would tell you anything wrong intentionally.

My suggestion is this.....Cut back on your portions (if you have not done so already) Try to eat as low carb as possible....meaning by the best natural low carb products (not frankenfoods). Eat your veggies and make sure your drinking water and excercising.... Take the pills and the yougurt as requested...Then when your infection has cleared up, then restart Induction....

I would much rather you take care of your infection then have the added pressure of what alternatives you have for prescriptions the doctor has given to you....Just my opinion..

        Good Luck
