Hello All,
I feel a bit like an alcoholic at a meeting!
My name is Robert and I am back on the diet!
A few years back, 1999, I was at 278 lbs. and pretty much hating life. I started the Atkins diet as after I went to a Brooks Brothers store and could not fit into any of their pants (size 44).
After 8 months, I had lost 130 lbs and was a size 31...it was pretty unbelievable to me and my life simply turned around. 148 was a bit low for me (I am 6'1") but I got up to around 165 and was thrilled with that weight. I got married and was working at the same Brooks Brothers where I couldn't find any clothes that fit before!
In 2001, I was working in New York and after 9/11 went back to school. Everything was going well until 2003, that Fall semester, I was applying to grad schools, dealing with a death in the family, preparing for a move to China and my life was just generally hectic. Anyway, that semester, I put on 50lbs! Unreal.
Living in the South again did me in (nothing like butter beans and pecan pie for the waistline)!
We have moved since then, and I am pretty settled in my new life, but am sooo unhappy with my new weight of around 225. I just tore the ligaments in my ankle and have decided I HAVE to get back into a reasonable weight range. My new goal is 170 and I am going to get there.
I have only been back on the diet for 4 days and have lost 8 lbs. A nice start. My wife has made some big strides with her health lately and she has been subtly (and not so subtly sometimes) urging me to get back on a diet plan.
I really hope this forum will give me a chance to share with other people going through the same thing and I hope I can get some inspiration and wisdom from all of you. I need the encouragment!
Anyway, best of luck to y'all, everyone here seems really great!
Best,
Robert
