  • Holy Moo-Cow! I'm an eating machine!

I've figured out this week that I eat literally twice as much on nights I work than I do on my days off. Twice as much! On my days off I'm usually a 2 meal, 2 snack kind of girl and on nights I work I wind up eating 3 meals and up to 3 snacks. I only get an average of 5 hours of sleep on the days I work, and that's usually done in 2 2.5 hour naps, so I'm up all day/night for 3 1/2 days.

I'm day 4 into an induction clean week. I'm down 4.4lbs already, but sheesh! I chowed down no less than 2000 calories in the last 24 hours! No good!!

Yes, I've stepped up my exercise routines - time and frequency, so I know that's part of my appetite, but holy cow! This is ridiculous. The thing is, I really am hungry when I'm eating!

I hate this. And I hate waiting for ketosis to come and take me away. Day 4, where is the appetite suppression?! GAHHH!

It's gonna take me a week or two to really watch, journal, and figure out what I can do and plan my attack. For now, I'll continue to eat cleanly and keep track. Hopefully it'll plane out after this week.

    I hate induction.

What are your total calories burned in a day? Maybe your body really is needing that extra fuel. The sleep issue probably has the biggest factor in all of it. Is there any way you can work on getting more sleep -- straight through! -- on the days you're working?

As much as we hate to admit it, when the body is under stress -even everyday sort of stress, let alone the type you've been dealing with lately- it needs extra sleep and often extra fuel.

What supplements are you taking? Are you drinking the same amount of water most days?

      I hate induction.
Is there a reason you drop back to induction except for self-torture?
I've always just dropped back to the lower OWL rungs since I found what works for me and what doesn't. No deprivation; still full ketosis. Seriously, I've wondered if maybe I should try induction sometimes, but have never found a good enough reason to. There's always this *voice* inside my head saying that ketosis is ketosis -- you're either in it or not. Hmmm.... I wonder where those voices come from? (I could be wrong, but I swear it's got a Brookish tone to it! )

        Heh! Deal Star!

Linda- Ahhhh. You make me smile.

        Okay..here goes.

Total estimated calories burned in a day runs right around 2700-3100 according to fitday's BMR/BMI/Activities deal. <shrug> Sounds high to me, but okay. LOL

Sleep? For the most part, I'm SOL on this one. I work 10-12 hour shifts Wed/Thurs/Fri and get home between 8 & 9am. By then the kids are up, breakfast is served and I go nap for a couple of hours. But what happens? Yep. Someone told these rotten kids of mine it's my job to feed them on a regular basis, so I get up and make them lunch. After that it's get housework, chores, errands, etc done. We do the dinner thing later and then I go lay down for another 2 1/2 - 3 1/2 hours and am back at work somewhere between 8pm-10pm,depending. I'm trying though, and not that you can ever make up lost sleep, but Sun-Tues I get lots of rest.

I'm taking NOW Daily Vits, NOW High Potency Minerals, 500 mg Vitamin C, 700IU Vitamin E, acidophilis, monolaurine, and Omega 3's. It's probably what carries me through Wed-Fri. LOL Water intake is still good too.

Induction. LOL I hate it, but yeah. I need to clean up my act and drop the cravings again. I won't last long on induction though. I'm too spoiled to go without my soft cheeses, fruit and whole grains for too long. - The slower weight loss that comes with eating those things doesn't bother me, so there's no point to the self-torture game for long!

I'm downing water like mad tonight. No more eating!!

And hey! That Brookish tone thing doesn't sound all bad. Maybe I should get me one of those? heh heh

I was about to come looking for you Brook to see how you were doing.

You know your body and Im sure after a week of induction you will see a huge difference. That is unfortunately what it takes to get rid of those blasted cravings and sweet tooth.

Im glad to hear that you are doing well (induction h*** and all!)

Hope every other front is smoothing out a little too. How is hubby? Wish there was a way for all your buddies to help with the sleep thing too but unless you can find a way to ship those kiddos thru copper lines and back...........?

Ok, here's the deal Brook, and I speak as a mother of four.

When you are done giving them breakfast, you PACK THEM LUNCHES. As though they are in school. A sandwich, some chips, fruit, veggies, and a drink. Label the bags with their names. Throw in a cute little note if you feel guilty.

If you're really into this, give them a large sheet and put the bagged lunches in a basket. Then they can spread it out on the floor and pretend they're at the park.

Instruct them: when it's lunchtime, go get your lunch. Clean up after yourselves. Mom will be sleeping.

That'll buy you an extra couple of hours of sleep, silly woman!!!!! And to them, it's like a picnic!

Re: Holy Moo-Cow! I'm an eating machine!

Ditto that! Plus the kids are old enough to be responsible when needed. Seriously! They are. Product placement and having good foods on hand. Salad stuff premade. A plate with raw veggies plus a bowl on it with a dip. Yes, kids can handle taking the plastic wrap off and putting it back on... and if they don't? It's not the end of the world. Fruit cut up; some meat slices or bbq beef in the crock pot.

"Failing to plan is planning to fail."

It takes a bit of extra time and energy, but you'll gain more than triple by getting more sleep. Turn off the ringer on the phone. The kids can call out, but you won't have any calls coming in. Get some white noise if you need to. Even a fan may help.

As for housework, errands and chores? Is your world really going to fall completely apart if these aren't done? It may look like a hurricane has hit at times, but if that's the case you're doing all too much and the kids aren't chipping in enough. Believe me, I know! I'm working on all of this myself. "Mom, slow down, relax" they say. But no one steps it up to help out and I'm too worn out to get after them. So I'm working on that more sleep thing and taking care of myself and on the days I do have the time and energy we work together to get the house back in order. They'll learn, just not overnight.

As for the "just as if they were in school" plan (great way to look at it Finelly!), you could put out a small list of things for them to do (housework/schoolwork) and make a trip to the library on days off for books to read. Hey, one of their "assignments" could be making their own lists of chores or schoolwork!

btw -- be sure to list out for them times when they need to eat by! In these past couple of weeks my kids have skipped way too many meals just because they're busy and didn't bother to eat since mom didn't make them anything. I don't know what's with that, but I'm setting down rules as to when they need to have food by whether they think they're hungry or not! (usually they are, they just don't realize it. go figure)

                      Woohoo, Brook!!

It sounds reasonable and if that's the case, you ARE needing those extra calories! Don't knock it.

Brook im sure your eating as much because of moving around so much.....maybe? Where do you work? And Im sure moving around with the kids maybe another cause maybe....It just sounds to me that your doing a whole lot more on the days your working and your sneaking in more exercise then you think by being on the go, inturn buring more calories and inturn being more hungry than on you days off....

                        Just my 2 cents....

As for dh - he's doing really well. He looks pretty Frankenstien-esque, but the swelling is down dramatically and it doesn't look like we've got any infection to be worried about. He's still got one helluva a headache, and it turns out that there were additional witnesses to what happened as well that are willing to testify or do whatever necessary.

I have STILL not heard from that blasted dectective, but I assure you he knows of my existance on this planet and will be reminded a couple of times a day until we end up on the top of his creepy to-do list. Grrrrrrr.

I'll check in later. I'm off to bring my mom to the dealership to pick up her new, spiffy car!

                          Hugs!
