  • I give up....

so I'm back to induction and doing this right regardless of my social life and my friends who have fast (some very fast) metabolisms. Mine will never be fast enough to eat like they do until I lose all my excess weight and reach a goal of my satisfaction. The good thing is that I do know what kind of eating will maintain my weight and it's definitely tolerable. So tonight I went to the store and bought induction friendly goodies like lettuce, tuna, cheese, cauliflower, etc. and will return to induction tomorrow. I don't think I'll extend it past 14 days because I like the variety I had during my hiatus from this WOE and would like to maintain that for as long as possible (which I guess would be for life if I'm going by the book).
Ok, so I think I'm gonna keep this thread open as a journal for the next two weeks and could use all the encouragement you guys have for me.
Oh, and I could use some recipe ideas for an induction friendly meal that will satisfy any eating style. My friends and I do something called "Dinner & a Movie" (yes, I know TBS has one too). Each week a group of guys or girls takes a turn at preparing dinner on Wednesday night. Then we watch a movie or play a game or just hang out listening to the band practice. Anyhow, next week is girls week and I want to impress them with an induction friendly meal that they don't know is completely atkins friendly. I'll be nice and serve rolls with it (they've never been a huge temptation anyhow). I've made cauliflower like potatoes and zucchini with tomatoes but I would like to try a new side dish. Also, I would like to make an induction friendly dessert (even if induction friendly means I just eat one bite). Suggestions for that would be well appreciated as well. I'm not gonna lie, I'm a good cook. I average 3 marriage proposals per week when I cook (which is almost every girl's week--well all but 1 so far). Anyhow, I don't want to dissappoint them now.

I would say "Wish me luck!" but I need to hear, "Don't cheat, it's your own fault if you do." or something like that.

Just addressing the metabolism issue...you can speed it up but it takes a long time in the gym (months if not years) to really tune it up.
Once you get into a habit of 3-4 hours of strenuous cardio every week it will get better.

But until then it sounds like you have a good plan.

      Hi Mere,

Here is a link to a website that has some excellent recipes.... http://users3.ev1.net/~fontlady/recipes.html

In fact I made her Pizza Chicken last night and it was incredible. I have also tried some of her salads and side dishes. I tend to stick to the ones that she rates with 4 or 5 stars. The other source of great recipes for me has been Dana Carpender's books.... well worth the investment. One of my favorite side dishes from her is as follows:

      Cauliflower and Green Bean Casserole:
2 (1 pound) bags of frozen cauliflower
1 cup of crosscut green beans
      1 cup mayonnaise
      1 cup butter
      1/4 small onion finely chopped
1 cup freshly cooked, crumbled bacon
1 cup shredded mixture os Mozzarella and Cheddar cheeses (I used the Mexican Blend for a bit more zip)

      Preheat oven to 300
Follow package directions to cook the cauliflower and add the green beans.
Place cooked veggies in a casserole and stir is the mayo, butter, onions and bacon.
      Mix thoroughly.
Top with cheese and bake for 20 minutes or until the cheese is melted.

This recipe makes a lot and I usually half it. I have also used fresh cauliflower and frozen beans.

      Hope this helps.... Debra

        Cooking Ideas...

some kind of Vietnamese lettuce wraps with fried ground beef or shrimp filling (actually, you make the filling, people wrap it themselves with herbs & sprouts) and a variety of dips. Or chicken piccata with capers...

Side dishes: http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/re...s/views/105815 is a recipe for green beans with shiitake mushrooms, terrific

I'd be glad to hear about your party success

just make sure you check your ingredients and total carbs when you fix those dishes as they can add up fast for an inductee,

As to the dessert there is a crustless cheese cake and a mock baked apple using jicama in the recipe data base.

            Re: I give up....

Wow, encouragement and recipes already. You guys are the best. Exercise isn't a problem for me, in fact I'm already doing almost 4 hours of cardio a week and have been doing so for months now. I'm a spin class addict but I also like to run and use an elliptical machine. This morning I'm eating eggs for breakfast and already starting on my 102 oz of water. Have ground turkey patties for lunch as well as veggies and stuff for a good salad. Probably gonna check back in later as my recipe search induced cravings appear. I'm baking a friend some goodies as a housewarming gift and I'm hoping it doesn't affect me too much. The good news is that tasting while I'm cooking isn't a big temptation for me.

I hope everyone is having a good day and gets a visit from the Whoosh Fairy tonight.

              Re: I give up....

So far so good, but then again I haven't faced any temptation yet. Drinking water is pretty easy, I have a 34oz bottle and I just drink a minumum of 3 per day. I quit drinking coffee on a regular basis so sweeteners shouldn't be too much of an issue. For anyone who is reading this, try Kraft 3 cheese ranch dressing, I bought some last night and it is really good. Having a little right now with some broccoli.

I've already had 34 oz of water, I WANT MY CLEAR, SOFT, GLOWING SKIN BACK!! Atkins is good for that if nothing else.

Yeah, I second the great skin thing. My skin has looked wonderful with all of this water.

                  Hi there.
I can't tell you much about recipes, but I can tell you to hang in there for the 14 days. It will go by before you know it. Stay strong! Also, my biggest advice is to check in with this board quite regularly. These folks here are the best. They will not let you cheat! Sometimes, they give it to you pretty tough when you need it. You will succeed with them!

Hey Mere, keep it up!! I'm a newbie lowcarber, not a real strict induction type girl, but I drink a lot of water and eat very few carbs, try to stay under 20... just wanted to second you on the unfairness of my skinny gf's (most of them) zippy metabolism... UNFAIR!!
Haha, oh well, there's more of us than there are of them!!

                        Re: I give up....

Day 2 is going pretty well. As much as I exercised yesterday I should be in ketosis in not time at all. I've almost finished my first 34 oz bottle of water (probably will be done before I finish this post). I have to make 2 desserts this afternoon for a friend, but I think I'll be ok. I'm gonna be sure and buy some induction friendly snacks when I shop for the other ingredients and have a nice big dinner before I go over to his house. I had a really good spin class yesterday (it's my addiction) and learned a new position for sprints that's really good and alot more efficient (basically, I know how to go even faster w/o killing myself as quickly). Hmmm, not much else to say, at least not yet. Trying to get alot of work done today, so hopefully my mind won't be on food at all.

As for the dinner and a movie thing next week, I think I'm going to make Salisbury Steak. Pilgrim's Pride makes a great tasting ground turkey patty (and they're cheap) that I will bake with a nice mushroom gravy. I'll just not eat the gravy, unless someone has a good induction friendly gravy recipe that could be used on it--hint hint. I can make mashed potatoes for everyone else (not a temptation for me), broccoli and cheese, and something else (just don't know what yet).

Oh, and I just finished the bottle of water.

But I am a little concerned about that photo of you and your boyfriend to the upper left of your post. Is that pre-Atkins, 'cause you really look......green.

                              Re: I give up....

Haven't posted in a while, doing pretty good. The weekend was hard but I got through without any major cheating. Not gonna lie about it, I did have some nuts, but I never said I was doing a clean induction, just that I was back to LC eating. The good news is (although it's no surprise) that I'm already at 193. I can't wait to be 190, 'cuz I'm going to let myself wear a particular pair of jeans again. I'm sure they fit, I've worn them at higher weights, but I just want them to be more of a reward than a "I can fit into them" kinda thing.

                              Thanks again for everyone's support.
