  • OK....Lets talk Ketosis....

    Im sure they have beat this horse to death but.....

    Can someone really give me a good handle on the whole ketosis thing....Now I understand what it means....but what i don't understand is how you get in and back out and back in again....Somehow I got out of ketosis not sure how...haven't cheated...unless you include the 1 mm piece of crust I ate off my chicken that I didn't pull off....

    But I can't seem to get back in....Now I remember some1 telling me that the more water u drink the less color u will get on the stick....is this true...? They also said if it does turn purple its because you not getting enuf water is this true?

    If anyone has some suggestions on how to get back into ketosis help me out....Should I even focus on that....

    All advice and comments welcome....

      Oh because I can't get any color on my stix....It was purple at one point....but now ...not so much

        Natasha, you're probably in ketosis. The water definitely affects the sticks. If you're not convinced and still worried about it I would suggest cutting back the water dramatically for a day or two just so you can see the pink/purple for yourself. Then start again.

          Lots of people don't recommend using the ketosis sticks. They are kind of like the scale, they lie. You are probably still in ketosis, so keep drinking that water!

            If I get out of ketosis, I always go straight induction for three or four days. I mean, very strict induction until I get back in. However, sometimes I will still lose even when I am not in ketosis. Then, when I am in ketosis a couple of weeks will go by and nothing! So, maybe they are right, ketosis lie?? Anybody else?

            what the rungs mean to me:
            rung 1 - more veggies
            rung 2 - dairy (some milk in coffee)
            rung 3 - seeds, nuts (mostly sprinkled on salads)
            rung 4 - berries, melon
            rung 5 - wine -
            rung 6 - beans, hummus
            rung 7 - other fruits
            rung 8 - carrots/ potatoes (nah, prolly not)
            rung 9 - whole grains (fresh Dutch breads...)
            Major Goal - 128 lbs/ healthy range
            (on to pre-maintenance)

              Natasha, I was wondering the same thing. Last time I did induction, I had those sticks turning purple and dark pink, now nothing at all. I also heard that if you drink lots of water the sticks shouldn't turn as dark a color. Maybe that is the case since I am trying to drink more water now, either that or it is because my sticks expired in May. Maybe I will have to go out and buy new ones just to test out the theory. I don't have ketosis breath either but my appetitie has decreased so I suspect it is working. My weight loss really doesn't show much either but I am not giving up. I always seem to feel better on Atkins anyway.

                  As long as you are losing, throw the stix, or at least just put em up. If you are drinking your water then you are diluting your "pee" and thus not showing anything on the stick. I dont show anything on a stick ever unless I stop drinking my water. At most I get a trace reading.

                    Never used a ketostix in my life. I know I'm in ketosis because of the energy, the taste in my mouth, the smell of the pee (except when I'm drinking enough water, lol) and the fact that I'm losing.

                      I've used the stix before, and learned a very important lesson, along with reading my DANDR updated version book....getting that metallic taste in your mouth, smelling urine (like everyone smells their own pee), and even body odor give off clues that you're in ketosis without the sticks...there's another thing buy my memory escapes me at the second.

                      Ketosis is basically the fat burning part of this WOE. When you're in ketosis, you're burning the fat, not the muscle. The sticks will/will not show purple or much of any color once you move into OWL because, from what I read, the water you drink and foods you eat make a difference....shheeshh, I hope I have that right....need to read the OWL part and Ketosis part again to remind myself.

                      Hope this helps...clear as mud, I'm sure. lol!

                        You know I cut my water the last day or so (just lazy I guess), and sure enough the ketostix showed a nice purple color . It's there, you just don't see it all the time.

                              Those sticks go bad very quickly, too. So if they're old, chuck em and buy new ones. Or don't but new ones, but i woudln't trust them anyway.
