  • Houston! We Have A Problem! Trying not to Panic!

Ok guys I am really trying not to panic....Now since my induction 2 1/2 weeks ago I have only weighed twice....Once a week but today I had no choice had to go to the doctor...AND:

I am back at 228, 1lb less than my beginning weight, THIS IS AFTER I LOST 9 lbs....Now I am not a scale junkie but I have been following the induction to a tee.. Now I have had atkins bars but thats it and I had these when I lost the 9 lbs...So i don't think its that....

    http://www.fitday.com/WebFit/PublicJ...ml?Owner=nmt12

    Also I have been drinking 12 - 18 cups of water a day....I have to admit I didn't exercise 2 of the 4 days....But geeezzzz I can't believe thats it....I did exercise yesterday elliptical machine for 35 mins///

Now TOM did start Friday and it just went off yesterday....But guys I was weighing less while on TOM. Something is wrong....I don't know exactly what it is...I cannot possibly be retaining this much water....and now all of a sudden im no longer in ketosis...

Before any one ask I check the scales So I know im accurate....Im Lost you guys but im getting a little scared someone pleeeezzzzz help me figure out whats going on....PLEEEZZZZZZ

Natasha, calm down!!!! Let's get this into perspective.

What time of day did you weigh at the doctor's? Were you fully clothed? Do you weigh in clothes at home? Your weight can fluctuate throughout the day.

How do you know that you're no longer in ketosis? What kicked you out? I noticed you eat the bars AND have soda. You need to check the sweetner amounts on those. You are only allowed 3 throughout the whole WOL. Tell us more about what you're doing so we can help you.

Also, you need to understand that exercising will build muscle a little bit and make you retain fluids until you exercise on a regular basis. Then your body will realize that it's normal and release it.

    Don't panic!

      First of all

      Breathe................

      Deep breath..................

There can be many reasons and I am trying to think of them and type as fast as I can.

Why do you say you are no longer in ketosis? Do you check with the keto stix? If you do, you may not show ketosis if you are drinking a lot of water. And we are all on the water challenge and it will dilute your pee and make a reading non existant.

Were both readings on the same scale? Different scales have different results because of calibration. Mine at home are 2# more than the dr scales. But I have heard more of a difference with other peoples scales.

Sodium, have you had any extra rencently that would have caused you to retain fluids?

Exercise, have you ramped up your exercise? That will cause your muscle to retain more water until it realizes that you are not out to hurt them.

Different times of day. First thing in the morning readings are less than later in the day. By the time you have eaten and drank water/coffee/tea you will weigh more.

Maybe you still have TOM water weight and it takes you longer that some people to lose it?

There are more reasons I am sure but I want to hit send and give you hope!

        LOL

We are on the same wavelength!

See Natasha!!! There is going to be a reason!! You may weigh in tomorrow and be back to where you were. Hang tight.

BUT.............. I would give up those Atkins bars!!!

Yes, give up the bars! The first time I did Induction (about two years ago) I think I lost 2-3 pounds in two weeks. I was eating the bars, drinking the shakes for meals and drinking diet soda.

Last October I cut out the bars/shakes and did Induction again (cut out the diet soda too) and lost 12 pounds. Quite a bit of difference, ay?

So, my first vote would be to cut out the bars (no low carb shakes either), cut out the diet soda and after three days check your weight and see how you've done.

          Hope this helps.

Re: Houston! We Have A Problem! Trying not to Panic!

Ok to answer Debbies questions....I normally check my weight in the evenings...and im very aware that u fluctuate during the day...I normally weigh will all my clothes on including shoes....

I am assuming im no longer in ketosis b/c the stixs aren't turning color anymore...They were at one point even drinking as much water as I was....And also I am very aware of the exercise factor....but geezzz guys were talking 8 lbs in 3 1/2 days....I mean dang even a person eating like crazy don't gain that much.....

Debbie I honestly don' t know what else to tell you... u know everything....

Ok now Terr......The readings were from two different scales but both at the doctors office....I thought about the fact that maybe their scale could have been incorrect....so I ask them for another scale cause I was stunned... The nurse was happy to help and pointed me to the old fashion scale....She even checked it first to make sure it was calibrated.....it read the exact same thing.....

Im sure I have had some sodium.... But I have been drinking water like crazy and going to restroom like crazy....So far today 6 to 7 times.....I still can't see the sodium causing me to gain 8 lbs......

I have not ramped up my exercise....Im decreased it if anything.....Now I know about weighing more during the afternoon or evening...and thats ok with me I take that into consideration but guys C'mon 8 lbs in 3 1/2 days.....

Could I be possibly holding on to 8lbs of water weight? and even if should i have dropped a half of a lb.....or a least a lb this week....this is crazy.....

You said it your self....................... even a person eating like crazy doesnt gain that much.

This is just fluid retention. Flucuations like these are the reason that I dont use the scale this time around. Its not worth the agony it causes me.

Hang tough!!! This is not a setback. Dont let it be a reason to lose hope!

Re: Houston! We Have A Problem! Trying not to Panic!

Natasha one sure way to hold fluid is to not drink water.

When I had toxemia while pregnant, my OB told me to drink water. It helped to push the extra fluid out. Even now if I dont drink my water I will wake up in the morning with swollen fingers.

So drink plain water. Cutting out the soda and everything else is OK.

                    Also, natural diuretics are:
                    asparagus
                    lemon juice
and I am at a loss but am going to look for the post with a list of good ones that I can add to it!

Re: Houston! We Have A Problem! Trying not to Panic!

More diuretic suggestions from a recent post by Desert:

"Beverages containing caffeine and alcohol have a diuretic effect, and several other foods including celery, onion, eggplant, asparagus and watermelon are said to have a diuretic effect. In addition, the herbs hawthorn, corn silk, and parsley are used as diuretics in natural medicine. Of these, hawthorn, (crataegus oxycanthus) is the most powerful."

horseraddish is also a natural diuretic.

Once again, hope this helps you Natasha!

Well I don't really think i need diuretic....* sorry for my grossness* But my bowel movements are fine....and pretty regular....

The only thing at this point I can think of is that maybe my cycle....But this is crazy....

Re: Houston! We Have A Problem! Trying not to Panic!

I truly believe that the drs offices pad their scales somehow, so they can always have the upperhand with patients. It has to be true!!!! That way, even if everything else looks good, he can always still be Mr God and say...."Well, you could really stand to lose a few pounds." It is a conspiracy.

I hate to go to the Gyn each year for this reason, among others.

NOTE: I do not condone not going... Gynelogical visits are very important. Please encourage all women you know to go.

I would just go by what your scale at home says. You weigh on it more often so you can tell if you have truly gained or lost.

I'll tell you this: I have never found a scale to this day that doesn't weigh at LEAST 5 pounds less than the doctor's office scale. I just disregard any other scale and go with what I have at home. You lose the same amount of pounds regardless.
