  • Patterns in weight loss

I can't remember who said it but I know someone said that they are recognizing a pattern to their weight loss, like a woooooshie every 5 - 6 wks or so. I just finished my induction yesterday, although I plan on staying on the extended induction for a while. Anyway, I lost a couple of pounds on the 3rd day, then 6 days later lost another pound, so I figured I should lose another in 6 days but I lost a pound in 5 days. So a total of 4.4 lbs in 14 days. I plan on keeping track to see if I start a pattern. So far I am thinking a pound every 5 or 6 days. I would be happy to keep that going even if it is slow going.

I was just wondering for those of you on this WOE for a while, if you see a pattern?

I don't really see a pattern yet, but one may develop Lets hope so anyway.

I believe it was Finelly that was seeing a pattern in her losses.

        Re: Patterns in weight loss

I just went back and looked at the chart on Fitday that I keep, to verify what is happening with my body.

It appears that what happens with me is that I will drop maybe 2-4 lbs over a period of 3 or 4 days. I will then "pause" for up to 10 days, sometimes 14. Then I drop another few. Then another "pause".

I also went back and looked at my weight loss chart from the last time around. Similar thing. I also noticed that at certain weights, the "pause" would be longer, probably because I had hovered at that number on my way UP the scale for awhile. So, for example, I was stuck at 201 for EVER the last time. ANd I was stuck this time at 207 for EVER (it seemed), because I was there for many months before suddenly jumping to 215.

So now that I know all of this, how does it matter? Well, I recognize and expect htis pattern, and so I don't sit around expecting that I will keep losing during the "pause" period. When I got frustrated at 207 this time around, I just remembered the pattern and shrugged my shoulders and kept doing the program, and sure enough, a couple of days ago I dropped to 205.5, then 205, then 204. (Now I'm at 204 for a few days.....so probably that's it for a week or so....)

Hope this helps! Knowing your body is the key.

"pause", now that's a really good term to use, better than "stall"....oh, so much better.

                Re: Patterns in weight loss

I ~had~ a pattern, but it went poof last week. The scale moved once every 4 weeks, and nothing on the previous 3 weeks. The explanation is the article Out Out Damn Scale - it explains how you burn the fat, but your body fills the fat cells up with water until it realizes you aren't gonna fill them back up with fat, then it releases the water and the scale moves.

Weeks 1-3, no scale movement, but week 4 would show a 2lb loss one day, then a day or two later, another 2lb loss. This went on for months, then last week I got an unscheduled 2lb loss. This week would be my normal loss week and I did get another 2lb loss this week. Sooooooo, just when I figured out my pattern, my body changed it's routine. I'm greedy and hoping I'll get another 2lb loss this week.

I don't really ever remember having a pattern... but maybe I will track it now! Oh, wait I can't because I am giving up the scales for a while..... Maybe I will watch it in a couple of months but for now I wanna concentrate on eating healthy and the fact that I feel so much better~

This is something my husband told me a long time ago. This is a great explanation of why the scales don't move for a while and then woosh!!!

Thank you all for this thread and your insight. It's so easy to get discouraged when the scale doesn't move... it is way too early for me to look for patterns but I hope there'll be one to be noticed.

This thread is about what happens to our bodies when we are on track, and how the weight doesn't come off on a daily basis but that there is often a pattern.

Hey Finelly with all honesty, I don't think Ipaet meant any harm by what he said. What he was saying is that when he wasn't on the WOE and doing the traditional diet/eating wrong what the results were. When he said what he did yesterday it made me think about all the rich foods we can have like Lobster drenched in Butter, fabulous Steaks with the fat. I know that low-fat eating was crap to me too, but once I started eating "good"/this WOE that's when I started losing weight.

I didn't realize you were the thread police.
I did see a pattern. If I stopped losing weight I checked out what I had been eating. If there was something different in there I eliminated it to see if it helped. The better I ate the more I lost. It's really simple to me.
There were even a few hi-fat foods like sausage that would stall me, probably due to all the other crap + sodium in there. Therefore if I ate crap like processed foods, Atkins bars, hi-carb stuff I would stall. If I ate well like natural foods I'd lose.
Simple as that. You can disagree or ignore my post but i have as much right as anyone else to post here.
