  • Please help.

Here is the situation. About three years ago I weighted 270lbs. I started the Atkins and was loosing so much on the intro phase that I stayed on it for 7 months. At the end I was down to about 202.I adjusted the diet after that but would say I ate less carbs than I was aloud but stayed about the same. Being 6’ I felt that was a good weight for me because I carry a certain amount of mussel weight. Well after awhile I started to get busy at work and made the huge mistake of going off Atkins. I did not go off completely but would cheat often (pizza, ice cream, cookies ect) well about 8 months latter I was weighted at the doctor’s office and found I gained 25lbs. Nowhere near what I was but still a little over weight. So on 6/2005 I began the diet once again starting on the intro phase and staying there to this date, however I am somewhat disappointed to see I only lost 13 lbs. I do both aerobics and weightlifting about 5 times a week. And I do not cheat except for maybe only eating about 7 grams of carbs a day.

    My questions are.

Does eating under 10 grams of carbs a day actually stall you?

Is weight harder to loose the second time around?

Or is your last ten pounds just tougher to loose?

    Thanks

    Hi jujitzu

Many of us have found that we are losing much slower on our second, third or 50th time. Check out the thread at the top of the forum on this. It will give you a little in sight that may help.

You have over time lost a lot of weight and that is awesome! Hang in there... you will succeed if you give it time.

      Hi Ju.....

I have been told that you can loose slower the second time around....also it appears to me that the more weight you carry the more you loose in the beginning...But since you didn't have that much to loose in the beginning I suspect thats why its so slow....you have less fat to loose it doesn't come off as fast....I have seen sooo many people who are close to their goal ...go through this...

Also, your working out hard so im pretty sure your building alot more muscle mass than probably had the first time...Don't sweat it...Personally I think your doing great...13 lbs down while working out....Thats Awesome!

      Good Luck

        Re: Please help.

it will depend on what your metabolic make up is the second time did you lose muscle the first weight loss and only add back massive amounts ofr fat giving you a slower metabolism? that is one of the things that causes the slower going on second big losses.

The last 10 pounds are an optical illusion. When you are a 300 pounder with say a 43.3% body fat losind one pound is a much smaller % body fat change then when you are a 200 pounder with 15% body fat. You are going to be losing at the same% change as long as yourt exercise and eating don't change but the change will be measured in smaller units.

        Happy low carbing.

If your doing that much weight training and arobics ditch the scale and start useing measurements. Since muscle gains faster and I'm assuming you didn't stop weight training after you went off atkins your more likely to gain muscle faster then you lose the fat.

                  Hi Jujitzu,

Justa few words of encouragement and maybe a question.

When I lost weight the first time it dropped of at about a pound a day. Now if i want to lose a few pounds after a holiday or such, even on something approaching 15-20g a day carbs, its still a little slower.

Over time our bodies change, our activity level changes and more telling is the way our mental and emotional habits change.

I've always been fasinated that my body is far more 'obedient' when my mind, emotions and commitment support my 'good idea'.

That way evrything works together for the good of our whole being.

Also, being a sporadically active person, I had to get away from the weight measurement thing. I now go only on inches. When my favourite cloths fit and my body shape is what i want, then i'm at the right 'weight'.

Lastly, are you doing the origional atkins or using net carb? (My question)

I have to say quite strongly that everyting I have researched and tried for my self (and others who have followed this advice) has proven- to me at least- that Net Carbs just do not do it for many people.

Especially those very tempting snakey (opps snacky) things.

                  Hope this is of help
