    Hi all -

A lot of people in STACked have been struggling recently with cheating, binging, and overeating. Cleo's been doing a magnificent job addressing the underlying issues and how to deal with them in her posts. Now it's time for some soul-searching.

    Re: Cheating/Binging/Overeating Questionairre

Not sure if my issue is part of this - the binging part is - but for me there's more.

    1. What time of day are you beginning your cheat or binge?

    d. Nighttime

    2. What have you been doing immediately before the cheat or binge?

    a. working
    c. having a conflict with someone

    3. Before the cheat or binge, when was your last snack or meal?

    a. Less than 1 hour
    b. 2-3 hours
    c. 3-5 hours
    d. more than 5 hours
    e. All of the above.

    4. Where do you cheat or binge?

    b. work
    d. public place

    5. Do you consume alcohol during a binge or right before?

    No.

    6. Do you have forbidden foods in your home?

    No.

    7. Do you carry legal snacks with you when you go out or go to work?

Don't need to. Legal foods are abundantly available to me at work- unfortunately, so are the rotten foods.

    8. Think deeply. What is your inner voice saying as you reach for the forbidden food?

    c. "I can just have one bite"
    d. I hate myself
    e. I hate someone else

    9. When you cheat or binge, what emotion are you feeling the most strongly?

    a. anger
    c. frustration

    10. When you cheat or binge, are what are you eating first - something salty, or something sweet?

    Sweet.

    11. How often have you been cheating/binging?

    d. every couple of weeks

    12. How has cheating or binging hurt your progress on this woe?

That's just it. I haven't been punished by the body fat/scale gods, but I haven't been rewarded either. - So in a nutshell, it hurts my progress because it doesn't allow me progress. It keeps me standing still.

      What an excellent idea, Finelly!

Soulsearching is always key in this way of eating, especially when food can no longer medicate all that ails us. It's tough trying to analyze our own behaviors, but once we're able to do this, we can go from being emotional beings to more rational ones... at least so far as food is concerned.

      1. What time of day are you beginning your cheat or binge?
For me, it is not a particular time of day so much as a circumstance. Am I bored? Am I tired? Am I tired and bored? I think that afternoon between the hours of 2:30 and 5pm are the hardest because I'm anticipating the return of various family members. It's a major switch in the schedule which would sometimes give me anxiety.

Now I just exercise during that time if I'm bored or tired, or find something that makes me happy and calm. It really works!

      2. What have you been doing immediately before the cheat or binge?
Again, no particular circumstance for me. I think, again, it comes down to feelings of general frustration, having no control over something or stress. Sometimes it would be when I have PMS (Pamprin really does work for irritability, ladies!).

      3. Before the cheat or binge, when was your last snack or meal?
Again, that would depend on the time of day.

      4. Where do you cheat or binge?
      a. home (mostly)
      d. public place (restaurant)

      5. Do you consume alcohol during a binge or right before?
      Nope. I'm a teetotaler.

      6. Do you have forbidden foods in your home?
Yes, but they do not tempt me when I'm on the straight and narrow with Atkins. I just made brownies and streusel kuchen this week with no problems whatsoever. What messes me up is when I'm off plan and the cravings are off the chart. Now I don't even crave sugar!

      7. Do you carry legal snacks with you when you go out or go to work?
No, but only because I know I'll either be home to eat or that we'll be somewhere where I can order something Atkins-friendly.

      8. Think deeply. What is your inner voice saying as you reach for the forbidden food?
I don't think anything. That's the problem! I'm one of those people with food amnesia, and the reason I eat is to medicate my emotions. So I can honestly say that I don't think.... at all.

      9. When you cheat or binge, what emotion are you feeling the most strongly?
      a. anger (very rarely do I eat in response to anger. I take action)
      b. boredom
      c. frustration

      10. When you cheat or binge, are what are you eating first - something salty, or something sweet?
Definitely something starchy. This always leads into something sweet.

      11. How often have you been cheating/binging?
I answered this question in my thread, "What 22 years of Atkins has taught me". I don't want to be repetitive, especially because I'm so wordy.

I used to cheat once a month, and generally during the holidays. The problem was, I could never get enough into my stomach to occupy any time/energy because Atkins shrank my stomach so. *lol* O the irony.

      12. How has cheating or binging hurt your progress on this woe?

I also answered that in the same thread about "22 years on Atkins", so I won't repeat myself because I am extremely loquacious. Suffice it to say, when you work hard-- only to lose 2-3 weeks trying to get back from the cheat-- it's a huge waste of time.

So I'm not the only one who feels I have a shrunk stomach? Good to know! I remember days when I could pack away 2 Big Macs and fries, I can't even imagine that now.

Starmaker-- I totally can't eat anything anymore, like you. Either I get absolutely ill if I eat carbs, or my stomach is so small that there's just no joy in even attempting a binge (what's fun about pigging out on a cup of popcorn and then being too full to try the cheesecake? *lol*)

                  Thanks Fin

This helped me a lot to evaluate what is going on. I am not eating enough and when I do eat I am eating what ever I get to first...........good or bad. Too much bad lately.

I wont be redundant as I have already posted about it in another thread but I really need to focus on "me" again. My focus has been on returning to work (IN A KITCHEN), family conflicts and emergencies to name a few.

Thus........... the quote at the bottom of my signature. I should be reading my own signature a little more often I guess.

                      5. Do you consume alcohol during a binge or right before? not usually. Although, if i do drink I'm certainly more likely to eat whatever anyone puts in front of me.

                      6. Do you have forbidden foods in your home? Not really. I have one small thing of chocolates, but i've had them since april and they're my absolute favorite ever from belgium and I would never binge on those. Those are special occasion chocolates. 11. How often have you been cheating/binging?

                      e. once a month on average. recently i fell off the wagon and it's been pretty much daily.

                      12. How has cheating or binging hurt your progress on this woe?

Well, i'm flubbier, although I haven't gained any of the weight back that I'd lost when I was still doing atkins right. But my skin isn't as tight. water! Plus, it brings my spirit down some, more knowing that I can't stick to it. I know i'll lose the weight eventually so i'm not so worried about that really.
