  • My Two Week Binge Story

This is why I'm never hard on anyone here who screws up. Because I know it can happen to me, and it did. I was doing pretty well the since April when I started Atkins, but I had grown a bit frustrated over the July and August period. I was always feeling a bit too weak and unsatisfied. I was growing frustrated over the slow weight loss as well. Some of you may remember that in an effort to speed up the weight loss I decided to cut my carbs further. It had worked well for me in the past so I figured why not try it now? I attempted this four weeks ago. First week of doing that was good, a 1.75 pound loss. Next week an ok 1 pound loss, but by the time I was down to my new low of 220 lbs I felt terribly ill. Something was wrong. I had been drinking plenty of water, but it didn't matter. I felt terribly dehydrated, weak, and downright sick. I had a one day binge which was two weeks ago today. The next day I was 4.75 pounds higher (no doubt mostly water). Since then I have been very bad, but I was very fortunate to only have added 1.5 pounds more. So that's 6.25 lbs total.

Today it stops. During the past several days I was doing Atkins during the day, but I was bad at night. I simply wasn't ready to go at it. I couldn't put my finger on it, but I now realize that I was scared to be feeling ill like I was two weeks ago. Now it's full time Atkins from here on in. No more starving myself. If I'm hungry I'm eating allowable foods, and dam the short term results.

You see, even an old time Atkin's guy like me can learn something about myself. It happens to all of us .

    Please welcome me back

Two steps forward, one step back. You're still moving forward. It's ok. WELCOME BACK!

Nighttime eating habits are hard to break and I know how you feel. Until this time around, I kept doing fine during the day and then bombing out at night. I'd wake up the next morning and try again......or sometimes I'd say *#@$& this and not try again for a few days or weeks.

Glad you're hopping back on the wagon. You might try eating more fat this time - your percentage could go up to about 72% and it might help with the sick, lack of energy feeling. As for the slow weight loss, well, I'm losing about 1 -2 lbs a week, and although it doesn't thrill me, it's still a loss.

Thanks Sarah. It took a little courage to come her, and get this off my chest. I've been feeling guilty about things in a way.

Bill, I have been having a hard time as well. Do not think you are alone in this. Its a big boat. But being a STAC'ers we have a better idea of getting around a set back like this.

How are you doing today, this second half of the weekend?

Thank you Spikette, Terry, and Starmakers. All of the comments are very much appreciated. I guess you all know where I'm coming from .

I'm doing fine today Terry. Yesterday was no problem either. Like I was saying, I've been too fixated on short term results, and I was starving myself. That's not what this WOE is all about, so I'm taking on a new approach - feeling well and satisfied with a much longer term theme to losing the weight.

Re: My Two Week Binge Story

Hello, Bill! When I first started doing the 2002 version of Atkins, I'd BEEN following the 1982 version.

To me it was unconscionable that people would eat 20 carbs per day starting out, because in the older versions a person began with 0 carbs for a week, then added those 5-carb increments.

Because you ate so little, your body was rebelling and was holding onto the fat stubbornly. It said to itself, "He's starves us before, so we're just going to hang onto this awhile longer". You stalled, you ate, your fat cells were vindicated.

It is of utmost importance that you don't try to eat too little, but that you eat to satisfy your body and that you exercise. Without exercise you're just doing the same thing you did before, and we don't want that for you! You're not trying to be the skinny Olsen twin.

So, in short, I totally understand what you're going through, and those plateaus and stalls are frustrating. So instead of weighing, you need to take your measurements. What your scale isn't shoing, your tape measure will be...especially if you're exercising!

                      Welcome home.

                          Hi Bill-

Thank u so much for the post!!! I am coming off of about a 4 day binge! I said I would get back on today but after TOM came and having no groceries at home, it makes it easy to eat whatever is available. It is hard!!! I know I am cheating myself though. I have to get back in the right mind set and get back on. Thanks for the story, I feel guilty too but at least I know there are others out there going through the same things as me. Good Luck!!
