  • Omellettes ~ Not Only Can I Not Spell It, I Can't Make Them Either :o(

    Hi everyone,

Can you all HELP me please ................... I am finding it soooooooo difficult to make an Omellette ................ they always end up a complete mess in my pan ............... what am I doing wrong

I absolutely adore eggs and soooooooooo want an omellette but for the life of me, I just can't seem to make one

I just don't understand how I can cook some fantastic meals but something as simple as an omellette just ends in disaster

Re: Omellettes ~ Not Only Can I Not Spell It, I Can't Make Them Either (

I adore omlletes (but cant spell them either).

I heat up a bit of butter in a pan. Add the ham, mushrooms, and fry until soft.

In the meantime, I beat up the eggs.

(my gf separates the egg whites from the yolk and beats the white separately as she feels that it makes it fluffier.)

When ham msuhrooms are soft, I add the eggs and just let them cook, making sure that the liquid covers the whole of the pan. After a while I just turn it over. (you'll know when its the right time as it will not fall apart ;-)

Once it is cooked through, I some grated cheddar over the top and put the frying pan under a warm grill for a bit, just long enough for the cheese to melt.

    I hope this helps Lou?

I do like Rich and heat the ingredients first in a pan with some butter. then add the beaten egg over the top of it. Use a spatula and lift the sides and let the egg run under. I cannot flip an omelet! So what i do is, once the top looks fairly set, slide it out of the pan onto a plate, and flip it from the plate back into the pan! Then add the cheese and fold it over.

Do you cook them on a low, medium or high heat Rich.

I would say medium to be honest. You dont want it too hot.

Re: Omellettes ~ Not Only Can I Not Spell It, I Can't Make Them Either (

I once chatted with a chef about omelet making.

                  He gave me these directions.

                  1. Fry your filling ingredients in butter/marg/oil.
                  2. Set ingredients aside.
                  3. Pour in heavily whisked eggs (add a drop of cream for extra good eggs).
                  4. Swirl pan until all edges are covered. Continue to swirl pan occasionally to get even thickness.
                  5. When edges of egg are dry and starting to pull away from the pan, you should slide it onto a plate halfway, add ingredients and then flip top half onto the bottom half.
                  6. The inside of the omelet will be glossy but not "runny" when you are doing this. After literally 30 seconds it will be cooked solid.

He swore the key to an awesome omelet is to NOT flip it.

And I LOVE my omelets now that I can make them perfect every time!

                  Give it a try!

Yes my chef hubby agrees with Kimberleys way of making omelettes, he also said non stick pans are a big help.

My omelets always look like they were hit by a Mac truck.

I just throw everything into the eggs, scramble the eggs and then end up with a beautiful cacophany of colors! It's like a messy fiesta of fun!
