  • I ain't never gonna be perfect!?? But I got the S.M.A.R.T system!! Come share w/me!

    My weight loss goal will have to be based on the S.M.A.R.T system.
    Specific, Measurable, Action-Based, Realistic, & Time-Based goal.


    S: I want to lose xyz lbs. hehehe like you guys don't know.
    M: I will weigh/measure myself every Sunday.
    A: Do ANA, Drink Gallon water daily, Exercise 4-7 x's a week hard.
    R: I lose 14 lbs per month.
    T: By January 15th I will (if God is willing in the name of Jesus) be at goal weight on Maintenance.

    Oh, man!!!!! You're amazing! VERY S.M.A.R.T!

    Well, I don't have a realistic goal at the moment, since I appear to be averaging maybe 1/2 lb a week for the last month, so I have to take a look at the pattern and see what is a realistic time-based goal. 14 lbs a month is NOT realistic for me, alas!

    As of 10/31/05, losta total of 56.75 inches!

      Nikki...that was excellant! I guess my goal is to at least lose "something" in the next month.

        Sounds like a great plan Nikki!!

        S - I want to first lose 103 pounds. Got I hate that number. I think I will look at a smaller number first. I want to lose 50 pounds.

        M - I will measure once a month


        A - I will drink 64 oz of water per day and exercise no less than 4 times per week.

        R - I will not pressure myself. I will stay focused and allow my body to adapt to my healthier choices and drop weight at its own pace.

        T - By January, I would like to see a loss of 25 pounds. (scale is moving slow thsi time around.)

          S - I want to get back to weighing 120. This is where my body tends to be the happiest these days, it's a good place to be.

          M - I will measure once a week - on tuesdays

          A - I will drink 64 oz of water per day and exercise no less than 3 times per week. I will stop letting my friends influence me to eat badly. I will also start adding foods in so that I'm not on induction the entire time, which just leads to immediate weight gain when I reach maintenance.

          R - 120 is 15 pounds more than I weighed at my skinniest (til after college). So, this is a realistic goal, and I have made it before on atkins, and stayed there for a good long time until I went on that medicine. So, I know I can do it, I just need to stay strong

          T - 125 by halloween. This is 7 pounds in a month and a half. This may be too much, but we shall see. 120 by the end of the year. No need to kill myself!

            I like your way of thinking, Nikki!

            Without Specifics, we can shoot for something...but what? A rutabegga? What the heck? No. It has to be specific.

            Measurable is a good reaffirmation of Specific!

            Action, or how to get to where we want to be-- an excellent motivator, and using specific language is necessary! Without action, we might as well stick with the rutabegga.

            Realistic--knowing what we're capable of doing so as to avoid self-sabotage-- is very important.

            Time-- it is good to shoot for an ultimate goal based on time. We can't just flop about for a long time in the mudpools of when. It's time to get out there and take that action.

            I think this is an awesome plan for anyone who is looking for extra structure, extra affirmation of goals, and helps us to realize that while doing the best we can, we have to be reasonable, yet hopeful!
