  • Don't be afraid to smell the roses... or the Snickers

Just wanted to say my kids know all about my obsession with smelling things to keep me on the path on this way of eating.

I bought my daughter a small Snickers Bar the other day because we were out during lunch and she was hungry. She took a bite out of it and looked really sad because she felt really guilty about me not being able to enjoy the nougatty goodness that is the M&M Company's fantasy.

She brightened up though, and as the clouds lifted from her countenance, she ate the rest of the bar and handed me her empty candy bar wrapper. She said, "Mom? Did you want to sniff it?"

What kind of a question is that?

    Are penguins black and white?
    Do fish swim?
    Do birds fly?

    Ahhhhhh!

I stuck the wrapper up me schnoz and drove the rest of the way home, a smile on both our faces.

    I've trained my kids well.

As an aside, it is hard to look cool at a stop light when you have melted chocolate stuck to your nose from the wrapper.

Thank you! I appreciate your kind words!

      To add another anecdote:

spent a good 30 minutes last Halloween just laying on my back in bed with a 1-pound bag of Snickers on my face just inhaling deeeeeplyyyyyy .

      It was snifffffffff
      ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
      snifffffffffffffff
      ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Hubby heard this, walked in, shook his head and walked back out.

We never revisited that topic again.

LOL! I love it! You dd is a great sweetie! You've trained her well.

I'm dieing laughing at the idea of your Dh walking in on you. I was pictureing him saying, "Would you like to be alone, or shall we make it a threesome?" Baahhaaa!

Re: Don't be afraid to smell the roses... or the Snickers

            Honestly, it doesn't!

Our noses are such powerful organs.

Smells are known to bring back memories.

There's even a whole aromatherapy market now centered around smell.

When we have a cold and can't smell, you notice nothing tastes as good?

The nose is very powerful. To me, smelling something is actually MORE satisfying than actually tasting it.

I'm so glad I'm not the only sniffer about. The bf just laughs at me all the time...as when I make brownies or something for him my nose is buried in the pan taking long wiffs going Mmmmmmm It's enough for me to just smell it. I love burning my yankee candle scented tarts also....I walk around sniffing all day. LOL...good thing I'm alone here most of the day.

LOL about the bag of snickers ...that is soooooo something I would do

I practically hyperventilate in the grocery store bakery...enough so that the little samples they put out don't bother me. Smelling it doesn't make me feel absolutely ill like eating it!

I live next door to a big Nestle's chocolate factory (they filmed part of Charlie and the Chocolate factory there).
When the winds in the right direction it's enough to drive you out of your mind! But when they let the burnt-kitkat smell out it's enough to make you want to throw up. I've often wondered what that smell is.
My personal favourite smell is the mint chocolate and the boiled candy smell is a good one too. My friend who lives in the country visits us and spends most her time with her head stuck out of the window drooling....
I suppose it's better than the smell from the sugar beet factory - yeuch...
