  • Family dinner tomorrow night - hope it will be OK!

    Hi All

I have been soooo strict this time round. I have stuck to it when going out (last time round I used to have the odd cheat day) as I know it will be quicker in the long run and frankly, I haven't even craved the potatoes etc.

I am going to a family dinner tomorrow. My MIL knows all about Atkins as I got her on to this WOE in the first place when I started last year (she is now on maintenance).

    The menu is:
    tomato soup
    beef stew
    mangos and ice cream

The soup should be OK as she is specially making it without milk and I am past the veggie rung. Obviously it would not be good if she added sugar but I am sure she won't.

Beef stew - hmmmm, I betya they'll be a dash of flour in there somewhere but as I said, she has done this WOE for a year so hopefully minimal if not at all.

What worries me is she said I could have the mangos and ice cream! Maybe she was joking?? I just don't want to blow all of my good intentions on one meal - I honestly don't place enough importance on food now to want to do that.....

It's difficult though as you can't be too fussy. I guess I will have to eat zero carbs throughout the day and hope for the best. I have already said I won't be partaking in desert but will have some cheese if still hungry.

Wish me luck!! I'll be checking those ketostix tomorrow night LOL.

Do like I do with all our family functions and all our get togethers with our friends. Bring a ceasar salad!!!!! That way you know you can eat it, and I don't know about yours, but my family and my friends all love ceasar salad but they never think of having one.

Bring your own desert to share!

Even someone on maintenance hasn't tried everything...and if you're past berry rung, make the low-carb cheesecake topped with fresh berries! What a treat!

Tell mom you'd been dying to try the recipe and wanted to see if she liked it, too.

It's a great idea guys but it just won't wash with my in-laws. They are quite formal in their dinners - all the best china and tons of crystal - and plan everything to the last detail. I will just skip desert - doesn't bother me one bit.

Good luck! I am also off to a family dinner- of course, ours will be on paper plates and paper cups..

My MIL doesn't know I started back up on Atkins, so it could get ugly. I will just hope for the best!

Good luck to both Zarabelle and Harligirl.

Something I used to do when I was in my losing phase -- eat something high in protein and fat on the way there, that should lessen the effects of whatever junk she puts in the soup or the stew. In-laws are so nice, aren't they?
