  • Did anyone find that flax stalled them?

    Hi

Just wondered as I have become a bit addicted to it and would rather kick the habit now if it could stall me!

I think it did. I am redoing induction and not eating flax. That seems to be the only diffrence between my first 6 month ans the 2nd. The first I did not have flax the 2nd I ate way too much of it. I lost nothing the 2nd.

D'oh! And just when I've discovered Ellizen's bread recipe!! I think I may limit myself to having it a couple of times a week then. Thanks

Flax is pretty high in calories/fat and it doesn't take much to add quite a bit to your overall daily totals. It's not the flax that's a staller, per say, but the amount of it that you eat. Gotta be careful, but it's so darn good for you and so versatile. Like everything else- moderation is key.

So what is the recommended amount? 2 TBSP a day or something or less?

Boy, with all the good flaxseed meal recipes, it is easy to over do. Seems to me if two tablespoons is all they allow, you can go over with just one muffin! I think I eat two of those a day when I make them. I also love the Spongebob's bread.

I know, the recipes are so delicious. I have always liked very high fibre bread which is quite heavy so flax really hits the spot for me! I think I will limit to a couple of times a week until I know it's OK for me.

Re: Did anyone find that flax stalled them?

I limited myself to a quarter of the recipe a day on induction (one tablespoonsworth) several times a week.
Now though I do have more now that I am high enough up OWL. I think i probably wont bother to try wholegrain bread when I get to the grains rung as I like the flax bread and am happy to stay with that.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

2-3 tablespoons per day is the limit.

The flax itself won't stall you. It is a high fiber, dense thing that helps you EVACUATE, so to speak. It doesn't stay in your body or make you hang on to things, but rather is a vehicle for letting go.

However, the calories in flax are the culprit if you find it is hampering your weight loss. So stick to the 2-3 tablespoons per day!

I agree Ellizen - I am not bothered about other bread at all now!

Thanks Finelly, as it happens, I lost half a pound today so know it's not stalling me but it's good to know that it won't stall me anyway. I will keep in mind the calorie content.

                        Hi

This is an American board but they don't mind us Brits joining in! There is an International Board with a UK section further down the list.

Flax is a seed - there are many of recipes for bread, muffins etc. that use it.

                        Cheers

Flax Seed Meal is available in the UK as well as the USA. It is a high fiber seed that Dr. Atkins says you can use for constipation. It happens to be high in good fats as well, so it helps keep your skin and hair in good condition.

People who use it consume between 1 and 3 tablespoons a day, either as a cereal (mix it with water, then microwave for 30 seconds, add cream) or as a cracker (equal amounts flax seed and water, dash of salt, spread on parchment paper and microwave for 2.5 minutes) or bread or muffins (there are recipes available on this site for those).

Amnd in UK iit is called 'linseed' and usualy for sale at health food shops - I pay £2.49 for a 500 gram bag of the golden seeds.
I use the coffee grinder attachment of my food processor to grind it when I want to use it.
