Well I told you that I would let you know what I have been up to and here goes:
After a whole year of planning and a small handful of committe members this is the weekend we hold the annual Trucking 4 Kids Convoy.
It is an all day affair, including as many as 100 or so tractor trailer trucks, music, food, a firemans muster and lots of raffles and prizes to win lots and lots of good stuff. All proceeds go to a local childrens charity called Camp Sunshine as well as to local Officer Friendly and D.A.R.E. programs. Set up day is Saturday and I begin in the dark on Sunday morning getting lots of coffee ready to go and begin flipping pancakes & sausage at 7am. We switch over to hamburgers and hotdogs later in the morning. At noon the trucks take off in a parade around the city and back. Spectators all vote for their favorite trucks in all the different classes and at the end of the day awards are given. Each truck drivers bring donations to attend the parade, companies from all over the state have given donations of money or food for the booth to be sold.
We have show trucks, tank trucks, box trucks, double trucks, humvees some years, trucks shooting fire from their stacks, every kind of truck you can imagine all polished up and on display. New and antique. Lots of music, dancing, food, food and more food.
In the past I have only run the food booth but this year took on the chair duties and this last few weeks have been pretty hectic around here. My phone rings constantly, emails are blazing all the time and I cant remember to get my daughter out of work at the end of her shift half the time as I am on the phone. Its a good thing she is patient, understanding and very supportive! I am learning to shlepp and schmooze with the best of them.
Well there you have it. I am looking forward to Monday morning and returning to some form of normal around here. I am tired and raring to go at the same time right now but will crash big time on Sunday night.
Please wish us luck that we raise lots and lots of money this weekend for some very worthwhile causes.
