  • Wanting to try something else

I have been doing Atkins WOE for over 2 months now. I am only down 7 lbs. I know it is slow the second time around but this is like molasses. I am also getting tired of meat, cheese, eggs and salads. I want more variety.

The things I do like are not feeling hungry, not having to think much about what I can and can not eat and losing inches. I usually come back to Atkins and do not normally go off a new way of eating. I think losing and keeping weight off is something you do for life. I just feel that I need to try something else.

I am planning on staying on Atkins in the mean time, unless I find a program that I can follow that works for me. I have tried Weight Watchers in the past with great success. I always lose weight fast, even the second, third or forth time around but my problem is that I don't continue with maintenance and go back to old habits.

Not sure what I will go with but I will keep you posted if and when I do. For now, I am staying here until I notify STAC of my intentions.

Oh BTW, I did cheat for my first time in over 2 months on Sat. night with a bowl of ice cream. I skipped dinner and went to the ice cream social at the campgrounds we were at. Luckily, I did not gain any weight back and had no ill feelings! Oh it was yummy though.

I'm not trying to give you the boot, but I hope that if you're looking for information about other ways of low-carbing it, you'll look to our sisterboard, lowcarbbulletinboard.com as well! There you'll find people doing WW, South Beach, all sorts of low-carb plans...

I also think you'll be less bored in OWL than extended induction (it sounds like you're doing EI?)

    I'd also ask:

    1) How many calories do you eat a day
    2) Do you exercise?
    3) are you taking any medications which might be hampering your progress?
    4) Are you getting enough water daily?
    5) Are you experiencing any medical issues which might be contributing to slow weight loss?

We have an administrator from ADBB who lost only 60 pounds in a year, so sometimes the weight really does come off incredibly slowly.

I understand that Atkins doesn't work for everyone, but I hope you'll choose another plan and give it a shot! Low-carb works wonderfully, but not every plan works for everyone because we are all so different!

      Hi there

Sorry you are frustrated. I agree with Cleo that you could give OWL a try. I am finding it so much easier this time as I am climbing the ladder and can have such a variety of foods. I am doing modified OWL so you still don't feel hungry etc. Worth a try? The grass always seems greener but rarely is.... I'm talking from experience.

Good luck in whatever you decide

Ooh! and to back up, Zarabelle, I'm doing modified OWL...and I loooooooooooooooooove it!!! It is so much better than extended induction. I like the variety minus the cravings, and the rotation diet. She's right on.

Well pretty much I am doing EI. I do add an item from OWL once in a while for variety if that is what you call modified OWL.

          1) How many calories do you eat a day?

I could not tell you since I don't keep track of that. I eat till I am satisfied but not full. I don't really eat alot anymore since I get satisfied so quickly. I think I did keep track in Fitday a few times and it looks like one time I was as high as 1900 calories and still losing inches and slow weight loss. So does this sound like too much?

          2) Do you exercise?

Yes, right now I do WATP for Abs 2 mile video with the stretchie band/belt about 3 times a week (30 min).

          3) are you taking any medications which might be hampering your progress?

No medications, just vitamins and Glucosamine.

          4) Are you getting enough water daily?

          I drink 80oz daily

          5) Are you experiencing any medical issues which might be contributing to slow weight loss?

Nope, no medical issues. Healthy as a horse.

I believe Atkins works fast for some and slow for others but I do believe it works. I would like faster results and figure if I can try something else and come back to Atkins it may help. Oh decisions, decisions.

Re: Wanting to try something else

Well, I plugged your numbers into a BMR calculator. If you are 5'5" at GOAL you will need 1800 calories a day to maintain your weight loss, with light activity. So you seem to be about right on!

Do you have a treadmill or a piece of exercise equipment? I've found that exercise (walking on an incline on my treadmill) has been the real reason for my success this time around. I do it 5-7 days a week and burn uber-calories doing it! Similar results can be had walking outside, naturally, and doing hills is awesome.

If you're looking for a speedy way to lose weight, upping exercise and watching the calories are a way to go. I know others will have other advice, too! This is just one way to look at the issue...

            Best of luck to you, no matter what you try! {{{pjade}}}

Re: Wanting to try something else

Well, you are close. I am 5'6". I believe 1900 calories is about the most I have eaten but normally between 1500 and 1700. That's probably why I am losing slower but I am still losing.

I do own a treadmill and used to use it alot but it has been collecting dust lately. It does have an incline too. I guess I should try using it watching one of my TV programs. Time flys that way.

Cleo, I must say that you are the best and I love reading your posts. You are a great inspiration with all your funny replys and great advice! We all need to laugh.

I will try upping my exercise and trying modified OWL to see if that helps at all. I plan on reading the other two books you suggested on the book poll too. I won't be gone yet!

{{{pjade}}} That's the best news I've heard all afternoon! Give the incline a shot and let me know how you're feeling tomorrow! I'll be walking along with you tonight!
