    Re: Treadmill dilemma

Look for one with an incline, when possible. Have you walked on it in the store? How wide is the belt? Does it seem to be reliable? Is there a warranty on it even if you take it from the floor of the store as a model?

My treadmill is a Smooth 9.1 It cost me nearly $2,000, but it is a treadmill used in gyms, and it was worth every penny. The belt is wide, the engine is whisper-quiet, there are pre-programmed setting, and the inclines run pretty high.

If you go to treadmilldoctor.com, you should find reveiews on treadmills, possibly including the one you are looking at buying.

In all exercise equipment, you get what you pay for--when you're on a budget, you really have to decide if a narrow belt or a slower speed is going to suit you, whether you have a warranty against defects, and if there is an incline on the model.

To me, inclines are more important than speed. Last night I burned over 1300 calories walking on an incline of 6 for four miles.

Just some thoughts! Be really careful. If you want some help learning about the brand/model, let us know what it is and we can do some research.

      Re: Treadmill dilemma

If space is a problem then you might want to get one that's foldable.

Also consider the length of the belt depending on your stride.

I also have a very expensive treadmill...like the ones in clubs. It's a PaceMaster.

Mine also has a self-cleaning belt...you don't have to oil it or clean it.

Like Cleo said...incline is very important but I would think that all of them have that.

horsepower is also important...the higher the better.

also check for a padded deck and check the warrenty and the display.

also see if it fits your stride. they have some at my gym that I smack the fire out of the back of my hand cause i carry my hands low when I walk as opposed to those folk who keek them elbow high when they run.

          Re: Treadmill dilemma

I want to reiterate the advice to check out treadmilldoctors website. I am looking for one for my wife, and there are definitely good brands and bad brands in each price category, like <$500, <$1000, or <$1500. Check out their buyer's guide, and the things they tell you to check out on any prospective model.

Just as a FWIW, I am looking at Trimline t350HR at a great floor model deal at 2nd Chance Sports.
