  • Left food at home.... suggestions?

    Hey all.

I was in a hurry this morning and left my Chicken with cheese and bacon, a fresh salad, and pepperoni and cheese snack at home. This will be the first day on Atkins this time that I'll have to brave the fast food world. I have the infamous Wendys, BK, and McDonald's around. I also have the other typical sit down joints around. I'd rather not spend the money for the sit down places, though.

I need some recommendations for "safe" food at these places.

You can have any burger without the bun and without condiments....just the meat with lettuce, tomato, onion and mayo.

Oh and I would avoid the cheese since it is processed.

There is a thread on teh 14-day induction forum with websites for many fast food outlets so you can check ingredients/carbs before going there.

Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

It looks like you have a lot of options. I always grab a grilled chicken salad from chick fil a. That is a favorite. Their ranch dressing is a lot lower in carbs than McDonalds. My number one suggestion is be TOUGH! "Forgot my well prepared lunch at home" is one of my biggest triggers to cheat! Be strong and check in with us after lunch and tell us what you ate!

Do you have a Sonic Drive-In or a Whataburger nearby?

If yes to either, go and buy their bacon double cheeseburger with mayonnaise, lettuce, tomato and onion (holding the bun, natch).

If you have the choice, go to Whataburger. Their food is a little more spendy, but you'll have never had a better burger from a chain ever!

Woohoo, mama! It rocks! I forgot to add, yes, the cheese is processed (Whataburger's isn't), but you just add a carb per slice and Bob'syouruncle.

I ended up at the Wendy's drive thru. I got the triple burger without cheese or ketchup (and of course no bun). I added it all up and it was only 2 carbs according to their site. They also had 1g of fiber, so that brings it down to only 1 carb.

cleo - always lively. it's awesome

Good for you! I am impressed. Way to stick with the plan and overcome the crisis. Just think, lunch for tomorrow is all ready.

Way to go on keeping it real while dining out! Wendy's does make some honking awesome bacon cheeseburgers, triple cheeseburgers... and they're usually pretty decent about holding the bun when you ask. Not to mention their mayonnaise is the real deal. Who doesn't love that?

When I get stuck, I would choose wendy's and have a Cheeseburger and a Caesar Side Salad...it tastes fine and is inexpensive.

Good call on the caesar salad. All I was focused on while I was there was "only eat the sandwich and don't get the bread." Next time I'll have to remember their other offerings.

I know you have already eaten but for next time get a couple of the .99 hamburgers from Wendy's no bun of course (I like the TX Double Cheeseburger) and the ceasar side salad. This makes a perfect Atkins lunch.

I wonder if it's a better deal to get the larger sandwiches or just sticking with a few off the 99 cents menu.

I know the jr. bacon cheeseburger used to be 99 cents when I lived in Texas. With mayonnaise, two of those were pretty ding danged filling. The mayo fat and the bacon made it difficult for me to eat both patties.

I agree with everyone who mentioned the meal deal-- now that you can choose the caesar salad instead of the fries, you have a pretty healthy meal there. I just usually get the burgers though. Too much lettuce makes me hungry and the next thing you know I'm making googly eyes at the Dairy Queen sign.
