  • A little frustrated

I have been sticking to induction, by the book, and exercising, and im in day 8 and im still not in ketosis, per the keto sticks. This is my second time doing atkins and the last time i was in ketosis inside of 4 days and i was eating nuts, and not exercising... I know i've heard that somtimes the sticks dont work, but sheesh it would be nice if i saw something.... Last time i had lost nearly 15lbs in the first week.

I don't know what to tell you about those keto sticks. Mine sometimes tell me I am in ketosis and sometimes not. Which does not seem to make much of a difference since I have lost very like weight in three month on atkins (like 2 pounds). Anyhow, I saw it posted somewhere that you could eat sticks of butter and get your keto sticks dark purple while you gain weight. I'm sorry you have not lost anything yet. Please hang in there!

      BAM,

Please don't be discouraged by the stix. I've never used them, but I'v read that they can give false readings for several reasons: you could be drinking too much water for it to show up or you could just have a bad batch.

Go by how you feel. Are you hungry? Have your cravings passed? That's how I KNOW I'm in ketosis. What about the ketosis breath? Does your mouth have a funny taste? It's not a BAD smell, but a different taste.

I've also read that for some people, the second time around is harder. Please stick with it and remember that this is a way of life - not a diet that you finish. You can do this. Just stick here at ADBB, post, read, get support, exercise, continue to eat right and it will happen.

Good Luck!! You can do this!!!

        Re: A little frustrated

You know, when I first started I placed those keto sticks in GREAT importance and let them rule my life. (Sometimes I'd test several times a day). Let me tell you from experience, that there were weeks I lost and they weren't purple and weeks I didn't and they were. I will say that for me they often did help me to look closer at my diet and sometimes I was having hidden sugars. So, it may just be the sticks or you might check for hidden sugar.

If these are leftover keto stix that you have from before, they may not detect anything. I found out that when I used an older supply that I had from before, they never did change color and I was doing induction for over 2 wks. I bought a new supply and boy was I in for a surprise. They turned color almost immediately. I figured they do expire.

            Re: A little frustrated

Back in 1984, ketosticks were EVERYTHING to the Atkins plan.

And, let's face it, it's fun to pee on something and watch it change to all the pretty colors.

Still, we know a lot more about those sticks than we used to, including the fact that those sticks don't differentiate between fat burned because of Atkins or fat metabolized from the last cheesieburger supreme we ate 4 hours ago.

So, either just have fun peeing on them and watching them change colors (guys, this is the closest you'll EVER get to taking a pregnancy test), or use them as swizzle sticks at your next party!

Marv, I was about to post a similar topic! Took me only 2 days last time around and now, nuffink! But they are old ketostix, so phew, I hope that's the problem...I'll check again in a week.

It's harder for me this time :-/ I am craving like crazy!

                  Re: A little frustrated

I can relate to you . My first time with Atkins i lost 5lbs in 3 days the second 6lbs in a week . I have read similar stories so you are not alone . Try not to be too scale conscious and measurements also give you an idea as to how you doing !. I have heard that keto sticks are not that reliable so dont put too much stock in them . Just keep focused you wont regret it .

they ARE the old sticks from last time... on the scale im down about ten pounds give or take 3 pounds. I ate a few peanuts today forgetting they arent ok for induction. I have been drinking alot of water, and then occasionaly some crystal lite, the kind with splenda... is that ok, i read the book last time but i cant remember, gonna pickup another book tomorrow.

Now its time for the exercise bike.
