  • keep me on atkins...

ya know, i'm stalled... bad. can't lose a pound to save my life.

seriously, i've been stalled for more than a month now. my motivation is gone.
i'm ready to clock out and quit.

i've never experienced this before. Atkins has proven to be the only way i can successfully lose weight... except this time. seems i've burned my 3 wishes.

    Re: keep me on atkins...

Don't quit!!!! I haven't lost a thing in a few months...I feel good, but the scale isn't showing it. If nothing, I am more determined. I've tweaked a few things in my menus and my exercise schedule.

Maybe you just need to change a few things...like maybe try owl, unless you are already on it.

Whatever the case is...stick with this WOE...keep coming here for support...it will all be fine...good things come to those who wait....and patience is a virtue

    Hang in there!!!!!

      Re: keep me on atkins...

      Let's be reasonable here.

      1. You know you feel great while doing Atkins
      2) You know you've lost weight on Atkins before.

When something is making you feel great, even if things are moving slowly, you want to quit feeling good and go back to an old, unhealthy way of eating?

I don't see the logic here. Why not just stay with lower-glycemic foods and try a different way of eating? No one could fault you for that. I know people who've stalled for months, but they felt so great on Atkins they'd never go back to feeling hungry and bloated all the time.

Does it make sense that you'd seriously want to go back to where you were once when you know this way of eating works?

Pick up the book and read the chapter that deals with stalls. Read what Dr A suggests and give it a shot.

      You're worth it.

      And you're no quitter!

        Try...
Posting yesterdays menu. Sometimes folks can see stuff that we don't see.
Up your exercise or catch at least 2 salmon a day. Add weight training if not doing it.
        Up you water
Have you measured. If you haven't you might want to check to see whats in the back of the closet that hasn't fit for years and try it on.
Let us know. I know of folks who stalled for months, but the alternative (to quit) just wasn't an option for them and they stayed the course.

I agree with what everyone else said - and don't forget that maintaining is better than gaining so coming off Atkins would be counter-productive!

              Re: keep me on atkins...

Well how much tweaking are you doing, Dan? Have I missed you posting a couple days worth of menus and exercise? Do you know how many calories you're eating a day? Have you increased your exercise or changed what you're doing for exercise? Added anything new in since your stall started (which, by definition has just been long enough to be called a 'stall')?

Stalls suck. They can be very frustrating. I can't promise you that the scale will move in the direction you want it to in short order. That's up to you. If your carbs are in check and your exercise is in check then you've got three options - up the exercise/decrease the calories/continue doing what you're doing, change nothing, and see if your body snaps out of it.

You could quit. The only thing that's going to do is put you back and square one. You're either going to have to learn a whole new WOE and all the ins and outs and hope that you're not hungry while doing it, hope that it works better for you- or you're going to find yourself putting the weight back on that you lost.

You know you feel good with this WOE. You know how to work it. You know it works for you. Patience really is a virtue - one a lot of us don't have after a month- but those of us that have been where you are and have stalled for much longer can tell you it's worth it to hang in there. It really is.

I was stalled for about 2 months. I finally dropped two pounds this week. Don't give up. Who knows why stalls happen, but if you hang in there they'll usually break. If you're certain you're following everything exactly the way you should be look at weird things like salt intake, what meds or vitamins you're taking, etc. Maybe you need to go UP the ladder and add more carbs in.

I wish you luck. This WOE is worth hanging in there for.

                  Re: keep me on atkins...

I've been stalled for pretty much the whole summer and I have about 15-20 pounds left to lose.
The trick is to focus on the progress you've made already, and celebrate that!
Review what you are doing and eating, and carry on. Ask yourself what quitting will accomplish and recognize that it's better to hover around a lower weight, than to turn your back on your new habits, and pack on even more weight.

Post some menus in the Review My Menu forum, and let's have a gander at them.

                    Re: keep me on atkins...

I stalled for almost 8 weeks. I went crazy trying to figure out what it was - the foods I was eating, the amount of exercise, the number of carbs, the number of calories. Nothing budged it no matter what I tried, and all I did was make myself sick with worry. I eventually got over it, just kept doing what I was doing [because there was no way in h*ll that any stall was going to send back to what made me fat in the first place], and as of the last two weeks, I'm back to losing at a steady clip.

So stick with it. If you're 'tweaking' - stop. If you're not exercising - start, its not negotiable on Atkins. And wait it out.

You could quit, but then you would be back in three weeks talking about day one induction again! I know, I have been there and been there. Stalls can be the most frustrating discouraging thing, but perhaps you have let the carb creep in. I know after staying under 20 carbs for a few weeks, I seem to begin to creep up to 25 and 30, then wham STALL? Maybe it is a cheat and I hardly realize. Check in with us, Dan, and tell us what is happening! If you have cheated, tell us. All is not lost.

I believe that the stalls we experience are adjustment periods that we go through as our bodies accept our new percentage of body fat. I firmly believe they are a necessary part of a good life change pattern it is one of the proofs that everything is working the way it should.
