  • I'm new here...

I've been lurking for a VERY long time, and this is the first time I've ever posted (I think...).

I did Atkins for three months back in the Winter of 2003, and had EXCELLENT results. I dropped twenty-five pounds. But my mom is one of those 'low-fat-is-the-only-gospel-truth-way-to-lose-weight' people (she lost nearly a hundred pounds over seven years by doing low-fat). She's not very supportive, and downright won't listen to low-carb reasoning. She badgered me until I eventually fell off the diet.

I gained fifteen of the twenty-five pounds back in the last two years. But now I'm starting over again! Today was my first day, and I'm a little tired, but I'm gonna stick with it! My mom's not really happy about it, but I told her she didn't have to be thrilled with it, it's MY diet. And I told her if she didn't have anything good to say about it, then don't say anything at all. And she said she'd keep her mouth shut.

So here I am! I'm 21, and I'm ready to lose about seventy pounds.

It's nice to meet you all.

Go Timebound! Sometimes those that love us the most give us the most grief. I know this diet works because I have lost 25 lbs before too. You can lose weight on a low fat diet also, but it is what works best for you. What works for her won't necessarily work for you. Personally I get so hungry on a low fat diet that there is no way I can stick to it. With the Atkins diet, hunger is not a problem.

            Thank you everyone.

I've got a wicked headache tonight, and my back hurts, but I suppose its just carb withdrawal/induction flu. I want to take some something for the headache, but I read in Dr. Atkins book that taking NSAIMs could make you not lose weight. What about tylenol? Would it have the same effect?

              Timebound,

Welcome to the board. There are many people out there who oppose the Atkins plan simply because of the "facts" that they have heard about it. It is a personal choice as each person loses weight based on different plans. I know this one works for me because it is closer to the way I grew up (meat and potatoes) than any low-fat diet could ever be. I can still eat the meat and the potatoes have morphed into other veggies.

You can do it, but your head and heart have to be in it 100%. Until you have it in both places you will not be successful. To be successful is a decision and not a wish! You can make it happen though with hard work and determination. I welcome you and hope you find what you need from the board! We are here to cheer and sometimes yell when needed! OK, so we don't yell too awful much, but you know what I mean.

What an insightful remark! and so true
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

timebound-- Welcome to ADBB! Show her some of the amazing before/after pictures, and I KNOW she is SO going to embrace this way of eating as soon as she sees the results!

Atkins is so absolutely healthful! If my whole family can eat a lower-carb diet and feel great, enjoy better concentration and be healthier than ever, then it's pretty keen stuff!

Tylonal is fine. Sounds like you are getting the infamous Induction Flu
